Plex coming to Xbox with all its Video Goodness, NHL Brings You Extreme Hockey

Post updated with amended availability – 10/6/14 1:25 p.m. PDT

It’s a big apps week on Xbox for videophiles, movie buffs, and hockey fans.

First, we’re launching an app on Xbox One that we’re extremely excited about and Xbox owners have been asking for. Its official, Plex will be on Xbox this week! Xbox One is the first major gaming platform Plex is available on and allows Xbox Live members to enjoy movies, TV shows and other videos from their personal library on the big screen, regardless of where the files are stored. And we’re thrilled to announce that Plex is also coming to Xbox 360 soon.

The Plex app automatically grabs the associated cover art and other metadata to make your media library look beautiful. Available to Plex Pass premium subscribers, Plex for Xbox offers customized categories, like genre or cast, based on your viewing habits and helps you rediscover content that hasn’t been viewed in a while. In addition, the app offers an “On Deck” feature that lets you keep track of shows you’re currently watching, easily continue where you left off and suggest next episodes. You can even search through videos with ease and speed using Kinect voice and gesture control. Plex will be available in all Xbox One markets except China and Hong Kong.

Get ready for hockey season with the NHL on Xbox One

The NHL on Xbox One brings you live, out-of-market regular season games and replays with a subscription to NHL GameCenter LIVE. That means you can catch up on past seasons and get yourself psyched for the upcoming hockey season kicking off this month. With the app on Xbox One, you can keep track of your favorite teams through a personalized experience and catch highlights from around the league. You can also use Kinect voice and gesture control to search through content with ease. NHL will be available in all Xbox One markets except China, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Both apps are available this week in the Apps store on Xbox One. Stay tuned, there’s more on the way.
