Forza Motorsport 6 Cover Car Inspires Ford GT Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller Concept

If the Ford GT supercar was turned into an Xbox One controller, what would it look like? Xbox wanted to find out.

In collaboration with Ford to celebrate the launch of Forza Motorsport 6, as a material design exercise, the Xbox hardware team created a custom Xbox Elite Wireless Controller inspired by the cover car of Forza Motorsport 6 – the all-new Ford GT. Sporting a custom paint job in the metallic “Liquid Blue” finish that is matched to Ford’s specifications, the controller features bold design elements that pay tribute to Ford’s automotive innovations.

This version of the Elite also includes some unique features: modeled after the GT steering wheel, the left thumb stick is angled toward the player for a more ergonomic experience and has a horizontal movement limiter to increase efficiency and accuracy in steering. Similar to the GT chassis, the controller is encased in carbon fiber to create rigidity and lightness. In addition, the paddles mimic the column paddle shifters in the GT, the cutaway gas and brake triggers reveal impulse motors, and there’s even a see-through battery door like the GT’s engine compartment.

Unlike the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller that launched in limited quantities in October, this concept is an individual prototype with no plans for mass production. Fans can see the concept in person at Ford’s booth at the SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas through Nov. 6 alongside the Le Mans-themed controllers unveiled earlier this year. Following SEMA, all four concept controllers will enter the collection of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
