Battlegrounds has sold more than 3 million copies on PC, is a top three game on Steam with over 200,000 concurrent users, and has been one of the most played games since its early access started on that platform, with a passionate community constantly engaging with each other and sharing their exciting (and hilarious) gameplay on Mixer and across social media.

And thanks to Xbox Live, the fastest, most reliable gaming network, Battlegrounds will have the support of a robust online infrastructure helping to bring this captivating genre to console.

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Battlegrounds is a last-man-standing shooter where players are dropped onto a realistic 8 x 8 kilometer island. E3 2017: How Will You Survive? The World Premiere of State of Decay 2 Gameplay Shows a Way https://news.xbox.com/2017/06/11/e3-2017-state-of-decay-gameplay/ https://news.xbox.com/?p=63078 Jeff Strain, Founder of Undead Labs Sun, 11 Jun 2017 22:00:06 +0000 Today, during the Xbox E3 2017 briefing, we showed State of Decay 2 gameplay for the first time ever in public. It’s a big moment for the team at Undead Labs who have been working tirelessly for the past three years to deliver what we think will be our best game yet.

When we first set out to create State of Decay 2, we knew we wanted a true sequel that took everything fans loved from the first State of Decay and create a more dangerous, unpredictable world that allows players to engage with one another in co-op multiplayer to survive.

That means more unique survivors, each with their own traits and motivation, more options to manage your community and develop your base, more new maps to create a truly diverse and expansive zombie-filled world and of course, more scenarios for you to make crucial decisions that have lasting consequences — including the ever-present threat of a character dying forever.

Adding co-op was the most requested feature by State of Decay fans and we’re incredibly excited to bring this to State of Decay 2. In co-op, players teaming together will manage their own communities and work together to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Best of all, as an Xbox Play Anywhere title with cross-play and cross-save support on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, we’re bringing together two gaming communities and giving you more choices in how and where you want to play.

Finally, State of Decay 2 will be launching in Spring 2018. State of Decay 2 is truly a labor of love and we’re incredibly excited to share more in the months ahead. Pack your survival kit; it’ll take all you have to survive!

The Influences of Perception, Now Available on Xbox One https://news.xbox.com/2017/06/07/perception-now-available-xbox-one/ https://news.xbox.com/?p=61706 Bill Gardner, Creative Director at The Deep End Games Wed, 07 Jun 2017 17:00:53 +0000 Growing up, my parents owned a video store. I was pretty much the luckiest kid on the block, able to pick out whatever movies I wanted, whenever I wanted, and didn’t even have to bring them back on time. Or rewind! Out of all the types of movies my parents had in the store, my favorite genre was horror. I loved them, couldn’t get enough of them, and even though I’d been through the entire rack ten times, there were certain movies I always went back to.

Horror with a great storyline was what drew me in. Sure, the blood-and-guts ones were okay, and jumping out of my skin every few minutes was a thrill, but the stories that stuck with me through adulthood were ones with immersive, layered narratives. Stories with characters you wanted to get to know better, and environments you wanted to explore all.

Perception Screenshot

This was the kind of game we wanted to make when we started to conceive Perception. We didn’t care about making it the scariest story — no blood, no gore, no hordes of jump scares. We’ve seen innumerable games like that, and really craved something different. We wanted to make a very sophisticated ghost story set in a place with a deeply rooted past.

Like the Overlook hotel in “The Shining.”

What makes “The Shining” so terrifying is the anxiety each scene creates. Yes, there’s certainly the jump scares and the blood, but the most unsettling parts of the movie are built upon dread and discovering the history of the place. We wanted Echo Bluff to have a long history the way the Overlook did. And we wanted to capture that anxiety and dread of the sweeping generational saga.

Perception Screenshot

We also wanted to create tension that keeps you guessing, keeps you moving forward. “The Thing” is another movie that really gets tension right, and another one where the setting is a place you want to explore more of. Trust is a huge issue in “The Thing” — who is your friend? Who is your foe? In Cassie’s world, there are only a few things she can trust… and after a little while at Echo Bluff, even those start to erode. We wanted to bring that feeling of paranoia, that ice-in-your-gut feeling when you know something’s off.

We also really love scrappy characters in horror. Ones that should never make it through the night, but by some ingenuity and often snark, they can do it. Cassie is that kind of heroine. Even though she’s blind, she doesn’t let that get in the way of solving not only the mysteries of the people who lived at Echo Bluff, but also her own sordid past.

Perception Screenshot

In a way, we at the Deep End are scrappy like Cassie. Even though I have a AAA background having been the Lead Level Designer on BioShock and the Design Director on BioShock Infinite, we’re a scrappy team… because it’s mainly my wife and I creating Perception from our basement, after chasing around our four kids. If that’s not horror, I don’t know what is!

Anyway, if you’re looking for a different type of spooky experience, one with a deeply woven narrative and a house full of mysteries to unravel, you definitely need to check out Perception!

It’s a rip-roaring third-person 1930s adventure for one to four players, full of peril, intrigue, and good old derring-do.

As a fully-fledged member of the Strange Brigade, you’ll investigate remote corners of the British Empire where few dare go and fewer return. And there in the unfamiliar you will encounter fantastic and forgotten civilizations, and maybe even unearth hidden treasures…

Strange Brigade Screenshot

But should you somehow survive the mind-bending puzzles and dastardly traps of this ancient world, doom still awaits you in the shadows — a truly petrifying army of mythological menaces stands in your way, unleashed by an Egyptian witch queen so nefarious they wiped her from the hieroglyphs.

And yet, all hope is not lost. Why? Because you’re a member of the Strange Brigade! You’re fearless in the face of prolific peril, willing to explore treacherous tombs, unearth hidden mysteries, and defeat unfathomable evils — an intrepid explorer willing to embark on an exotic safari into danger itself!

Strange Brigade Screenshot

As one of four debonair explorers, you have your own strengths and, by Jove, superhuman powers to boot. And of course, as part of the Strange Brigade you can fight back-to-back with up to three other players. And fight you must to protect King and country against such impossible forces of evil!

Are our heroes doomed for burial in an ancient tomb? Is this the end for our intrepid adventurers?

Find out in Strange Brigade, coming soon to an Xbox One near you!

Fable Fortune Coming to Xbox One on July 11 https://news.xbox.com/2017/06/06/fable-fortune-xbox-one-game-preview-july-11/ https://news.xbox.com/?p=61644 Tom “Wimbles” Wimbush, Lead Designer of Fable Fortune Tue, 06 Jun 2017 20:00:25 +0000 Welcome, Heroes! We interrupt your no-doubt busy schedule of flexing and quaffing ale to share the news that Fable Fortune will be hitting Xbox Game Preview on July 11.

Fable Fortune combines pioneering CCG systems with some of the Fable’s most cherished moments; featuring timeless heroes, despicable villains, armies of bemused (and conveniently expendable) peasants, and some good old fashioned, family-friendly necromancy.

Choose from one of six Heroes each sporting diverse powers and cards, and set forth to crush your opponents under a hobnailed boot in either classic PVP mode, or the unique and fully integrated Co-op mode. Discover how the iconic Alignment mechanic can be used to shift heroes towards a good or evil path during play; transforming their powers, altering their card effects, and turning the tide of battle in one chicken-kicking* hand.

Interested Adventurers can gain access to Fable Fortune at launch by picking up the Founder’s Pack. Containing a ton of in-game items including 20 packs of cards to open, the exclusive Chicken Vengeant Trophy Card and the very rare (you might even say ‘Fabled’) Giant Egg card.

Fable Fortune will be free to play later in 2017, but the Founder’s Pack is available to those wanting to join us early on! Purchasing the Founder’s Pack is the best way fans can support this development whilst also gaining some amazing rewards, the undying gratitude of the developers, and a cheeky 20% discount the week of launch thanks to Xbox Live Deals with Gold.

Check out http://www.fable-fortune.com for more information on Fable Fortune, including handy gameplay guides, Guildmaster’s Tips and more! You can also follow Fable Fortune on Facebook and Twitter.

*Neither Flaming Fowl Studios or Mediatonic endorse the act of chicken-kicking outside of safely prescribed and licensed establishments, please consult your local tavern for details.

Return to the Legendary Island of Vvardenfell Today in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind https://news.xbox.com/2017/06/06/the-elder-scrolls-online-morrowind-available-now-xbox-one/ https://news.xbox.com/?p=61568 Gina Bruno, Community Manager for The Elder Scrolls Online Tue, 06 Jun 2017 16:00:38 +0000 It’s time, Elder Scrolls fans, to return to the incredible island of Vvardenfell for all new adventures in The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind.

15 years after Bethesda Game Studios released the award-winning The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind –the first Elder Scrolls game for console, and, exclusively on Xbox! — you can return to the mushroom-festooned volcanic island of Vvardenfell and explore the home of the Dark Elves 700 years in the past.

Since ESO first launched on Xbox One in 2015, the team at ZeniMax Online Studios has worked to refine, improve, and add new gameplay experiences based on the feedback from you, the players. Today, TESO plays more like a traditional Elder Scrolls game than ever before, featuring all the same freedom of exploration and unique character building you have come to love in games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Screenshot

This new Chapter is easily the biggest update ever for TESO, introducing a massive new zone, a new class  known as the Warden, a new small-scale, fast-paced PvP mode called Battlegrounds, a new 12-player Trial, and more than 30 hours of quests.

New to TESO? Don’t worry – Morrowind isn’t just for the most devoted veterans. Unlike traditional MMOs, TESO: Morrowind doesn’t require you to have a high-level hero to begin the new adventure. New and existing players alike can roll a fresh character and jump right into the Vvardenfell storyline from level 1.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Screenshot

And, of course, TESO vets can also continue their current characters. You can drop what you’re doing, ship out to Vvardenfell, and begin the new story right away.

Join any of the millions of other players online to adventure together, conquer World Bosses, Delves, and Trials as a group, or, if you want to play by yourself, save Morrowind on your own as you would in any other Elder Scrolls RPG.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Screenshot

But what is Vvardenfell and where should you go when you step off the boat? There are so many amazing places to see and wax nostalgic from TESIII, it’s hard to decide. Here are just a few key locales that you should check out right away:

Seyda Neen
The port town of Seyda Neen is the first place you will encounter (as it was in TESIII) and will set you off on your adventures. From Seyda Neen, the island of Vvarenfell will open up for you. Head East to Vivec City and Suran, or North to Balmora, Ald’ruhn, and Gnisis. Adventure awaits! Just make sure you clear customs, first. And you might want to take a peek out the back door of the Customs House to find your first Skyshard. Ssssh!

Vivec City
Named for the demi-god who resides there, Vvardenfell’s capital, Vivec City, is still under construction in the time of ESO: Morrowind. You’ll need to visit Vivec’s Palace to get into the main story, but also tkake time see the Hall of Justice, the Library of Vivec, and, most notably, the meteor “Baar Dau” that floats precariously above! Vivec City features a full suite of crafting stations, stores, and daily quest givers.

Sadrith Mora
On the eastern coast of Vvardenfell you’ll find the imposing mushroom towers of House Telvanni. Take your time investigating this island town, as the Telvanni sorcerers are highly secretive in nature. Keep an eye out for a certain lovesick Dark Elf as you roam the towers of Sandrith Mora. You might enjoy a rather unique introduction to Telvanni culture.

Halls of Fabrication / Tel Fyr
Think you’re ready for something a bit more challenging? Bring your best gear and Skills – along with 11 of your fellow outlanders — and hit the new 12-person Trial to help the Telvanni Sorceror Diyath Fyr investigate and shut down the Halls of Fabrication. As you navigate the dangerous halls and corridors of Sotha Sil’s creation, be prepared for a deadly challenge, as this Trial will push you and your team to your abilities.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind Screenshot

The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is available today! You can hit the Xbox Store to buy the full game, which includes the new Morrowind adventure as well as the original TESO content, with hundreds of hours of additional questing. If you’re already an TESO player, you can just grab the upgrade and make your way to Seyda Neen.

The game is also available in Collector’s Edition format, with amazing rewards. For all of the details and more guides to get started, head to www.ElderScrollsOnline.com. Welcome back to Vvardenfell, Xbox gamers!

Gears of War Esports Pro Circuit Season 2 Announced https://news.xbox.com/2017/06/05/gears-pro-circuit-season-2-announced/ https://news.xbox.com/?p=61510 Jack Felling, Lead Esports Producer, The Coalition Mon, 05 Jun 2017 18:00:57 +0000 Teams from all over the world made their way to the City of Lights to battle it out over a $300,000 prize pool at the Gears Pro Circuit Las Vegas Open, which delivered a fitting end to an season of incredible stories.

Ghost Gaming looked like a potential contender for the crown after becoming the first team to take a map from Optic Gaming in Pool Play all season, but their second duel in the desert against a refreshed Optic Gaming and a determined Team EnVyUs ended their run in third place. The Finals ended with the top two teams in the world facing off – Optic Gaming and Team EnVyUs – with Optic Gaming coming out on top once again to take the crown with a convincing 2-0 win.

Season 1 has been a massive success for Gears of War Esports. Since we announced our first official esports program with a one million dollar starting prize pool, we’ve traveled to Columbus, London, Mexico City, Atlantic City, Paris and Las Vegas with teams competing from around the globe.

We are proud to have exceeded our expectations for Season One to become one of the fastest growing esports in eight months, with over 200,000 esports competitors, sold out events, millions of viewers and more than 1 Billion impressions throughout the circuit. To bring the personalities, esports action and drama home to viewers around the world, we’ve broadcast over 300 hours of content and over 350 custom Gears of War Esports video features.

Fans have also embraced competitive Gears of War more than ever before. Since the start of Season 1, Escalation, the definitive esports mode for Gears of War Esports, has continually increased in popularity to become the third most played game mode in Gears of War 4. And, thanks to fan funding through Esports Supporter Gear Packs, we’ve given away $1.25 million dollars in prize money during Season 1. An esport can only be successful by building a community of passionate viewers, competitive players and continual competition, and these results reflect the foundation of the first 8 months of Gears Esports as we look toward the future.

Today, we are excited to announce that Gears of War will continue its commitment to esports with the Gears of War Esports Pro Circuit Season 2, with a $1,000,000 prize pool up for grabs! We’re building on the international accessibility we began in Season 1 with large open global LAN events, now with the addition of funding for regional tournaments and grassroots support. We’re also increasing our travel coverage for teams to support the amazing team organizations that have made an investment in Gears of War.

There’s much more to come from Gears of War Esports so stay tuned for more information in the coming months as we build up to the launch of Season 2 in late summer/early fall.
