A Letter From Dan Greenawalt, Creative Director, Turn 10 Studios
This year marks the 12-year anniversary of Turn 10 Studios’ founding and, next year, we’ll celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the original Forza Motorsport on Xbox. That seems like a long time ago, and not just because it was a long time ago. Since we began Turn 10, we’ve all grown… professionally, personally, and otherwise. We’ve gotten older, some of us have started families, and we’ve all benefitted from the perspective that only time and experience can offer.
When Turn 10 came together to build a racing game on Xbox back in 2002, we had high hopes and grand aspirations for the game that would become Forza Motorsport. By the time we released Forza Motorsport 2 in 2007, it was clear that we were building much more than a game. We were building a community. A community of racers, artists, drifters, photographers, dragsters, and car lovers of every stripe.
Watching the Forza community grow and evolve over time has been gratifying and especially humbling for each of us here at Turn 10. We’re proud of what we’ve created and awed by the passion and creativity we witness on a daily basis. Fostering and sustaining the Forza community is a responsibility and a privilege that we take seriously. That’s no less true today than it was when we first began the series in 2005.
I look at the game we launched on November 22, 2013 and the game that I play today, and I see something that has changed dramatically over the past four months. We’ve made some significant changes to the game’s economy, we’ve added new features, and we’ve continued a steady stream of new content, including track add-ons like February’s free addition of Road America.
With our most recent content update for Forza 5, I’m excited to say we’ve made some fundamental improvements to the Forza 5 experience for our fans. As of today, players who have purchased DLC cars in Forza Motorsport 5 can add those cars to their Forza 5 garage immediately, at no additional in-game cost. And, moving forward, when you buy a Season Pass, a DLC car pack, or a single DLC car, you will be granted the one-time free addition of each car to your Forza 5 garage, without needing to purchase them with in-game credits or tokens. This goes for all current Forza Motorsport 5 DLC (including cars in previous DLC car packs) and it will be the case for all future Forza 5 DLC car packs. In addition, as requested by our fans, this most recent content update makes all of the initial 200 cars that launched with Forza 5 available as rental cars.
We’ve built some great history together, all of us. Today’s fundamental changes to Forza Motorsport 5 have been made possible in large part because of the unwavering passion and dedication of you, the Forza Motorsport community. We are a fan-driven series, and the steadfast dedication you have all shown the Forza Motorsport series over the years continues to be a source of inspiration to me, and to everyone here at Turn 10.
This is important. We’re just getting started! In early April, we’ll have another announcement about a free add-on to Forza 5 that I think you guys are going to love.
Thanks for helping make the Forza series what it is today. I’m happy to be a member of the Forza Motorsport community and I’m glad you are part of it with me.
Thanks,
Dan
