Guerrilla Warfare Showcased in the Third Limited Edition Rise of the Tomb Raider Poster
This week at the GameStop Manager’s Show, Xbox and Crystal Dynamics unveiled the third poster in a limited edition series, showcasing each of the unique and thrilling themes in Rise of the Tomb Raider. The poster will be available in limited quantities exclusively at GameStop to gamers who pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One and can be picked up in store when the game releases on November 10th.
Following Geof Darrow’s take on “women-vs-wild” at San Diego Comic-Con and La Boca’s interpretation of “tombs” at gamescom, Frank Kozik, CEO of Kid Robot, and the legendary artist responsible for some of the most iconic music posters for Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam (to name a few) took on the challenge of designing a poster for Rise of the Tomb Raider, and showcases “guerrilla warfare” in his trademark style.
“I wanted to do something ‘not artsy’ but bold and impactful,” said Kozik, while describing his creative process and inspiration for the piece. “Since it was set at night, I felt the color palette of blues and red would work well. It’s very reminiscent of the EC Comics style and allowed me to not be ‘over detailed’ and makes a cool counterpoint to the very detailed and lush look of the game.”
Looking specifically at how he portrays Lara in the poster, Kozik explains, “She is a strong warrior and cunning survivor. She is the Huntress – not the hunted.”
