Rise of the Tomb Raider Gets an All-star Composer

Epic adventure needs epic tunes, and November’s Xbox-exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider is getting quite the musical score. Xbox and developer Crystal Dynamics are pleased to announce that Lara Croft’s next grand adventure will be scored by world-renowned composer Bobby Tahouri, whose work on TV and movies has included big-name franchises like “Game of Thrones,” “Iron Man,” and “Despicable Me 2.”

“It’s been an honor working on such a storied franchise,” Tahouri said. “Lara is someone who embodies an indomitable spirit, and crafting music to accompany her on her journey has been a fantastic experience.”

We can’t think of a better fit than Tahouri for
Rise of the Tomb Raider, which features a ton of action across some of the most beautiful – and hostile – regions ever seen in the series. You’ll guide series heroine Lara Croft on her first great tomb raiding expedition, as she searches for the secret of immortality, and takes on some very not-nice people who are dead-set on beating her to the prize. Rise of the Tomb Raider even features some procedurally generated music during stealth combat events,  using a middleware system licensed by Intelligent Music Systems, LLC. This system analyzes Tahouri’s compositions and dynamically composes new music, making every play-through unique.

“Music is incredibly important in video games to help create the right atmosphere, mood and tone, and this is especially true for
Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is set to be Lara’s biggest and boldest adventure yet,” said Rich Briggs, brand director at Crystal Dynamics. “We love the sound Bobby brings to the game, and we’re excited for fans to join Lara in this adventure when the game launches on November 10.”
