The 5 Biggest Reasons We’re Loving Fallout 4

Fallout 4 – Bethesda’s massive, open-world, sci-fi role-playing game experience – is finally here, and we’ve lost full days to it already. There’s a TON to do in Fallout 4, and we’re talking everything from killing giant bugs to deciding which furniture looks best in our new living room. Check out some of the reasons we’re loving our time in the wasteland.

Post-apocalyptic Boston Is Amazing

Exploring the ruins (and refurbished areas) of Boston – now known as the Commonwealth – is sometimes gorgeous, sometimes scary, and sometimes funny. The massive area is full of landmarks like Fenway Park… and every inch of the place tells a story. Check out the old comic book publisher’s offices, or the museum… and don’t mind the many many skeletons inside the gentleman’s club.

Gun-craft

Weapons and armor in Fallout 4 can be upgraded with the games massive, complex crafting system. We’re not just talking about upgrades, either: Crafted weapon mods change how the weapons actually work, and how they look. Turn a laser blaster into a laser shotgun, or turn a pistol into an automatic rifle; the choice is up to you. The same goes for your armor, which can be upgraded piecemeal, allowing you to create an amalgam of styles.

The Supporting Cast Steals the Show

Your robotic butler Codsworth and your faithful canine companion Dogmeat are both awesome to have around… even if Dogmeat’s favorite activity seems to be traipsing through radioactive puddles. In addition to these two, you’ll meet a slew of strange side characters and companions, all of whom get a pretty hefty amount of character development.

Enemies Are Varied, Deadly, and Gross

The types of baddies you encounter on your journey through the wasteland come in all shapes and sizes; from mobsters to radioactive scorpions, a lot of things out there want to kill you. The fights in Fallout 4 can be surgically performed with your handy Virtually Assisted Targeting System or in real time, and we recommend both – as they feel different, but fun in their own ways.

Become a Real Estate Mogul

In the Commonwealth of Fallout 4, you can build houses (well, shacks for starters) for settlers. As you progress through the game, the size and scope of your buildings grows, and more settlers show up. It’s a whole optional metagame within Fallout 4, and it reaps serious rewards if you invest the time and resources.

Fallout 4 is out now for the Xbox One. Jump into your power armor, grab your irradiated flamethrower, and get ready to take out some wastelanders!
