Book of Demons Hacks and Slashes onto Xbox One

Hey, Xbox fans! I’m proud to announce that Book of Demons, our upcoming deck-building hack and slash where it’s the player who decides the length of quests, will launch on Xbox One as a console exclusive!

As you probably noticed, Book of Demons is a tribute to all the hack and slash classics – the games we played as teenagers and pulled all-nighters because of. We’re all fans of these titles at Thing Trunk, and we always wanted to develop a game that would honor the precursors of the genre and bring something fresh to the table at the same time. And frankly, we think we did it.

What makes Book of Demons stand out is the number of gameplay mechanic twists, the paper cut-out graphics, a dark theme intertwined with a fair dose of humor, and what we’re most proud of – the unprecedented accessibility. The hallmark of Book of Demons is the character development mechanic we came up with. The game replaces the usual hack-and-slash statfest with a single solution – a card system. You will collect, upgrade and combine skill cards to compose your own decks of powers. It may sound pretty simple, however there is no ultimate card set that fits all the situations – to survive, you will have to constantly come up with new strategies and implement regular adjustments to their skill collections.

The second feature which greatly increases Book of Demons’ ease of play is the possibility to select the length of each quest, so you can choose if you want to embark on a longer, more epic journey or take on a 5-minute mission. Shorter missions do not mean they are easier, though – thanks to our Flexiscope system, you will always experience the same intensity of gameplay, no matter the length of current quest.

What about the story? Book of Demons puts you in charge of one of 3 characters taking part in an epic, but humorous quest to save Paperverse from total destruction. While the game facilitates you in every possible way, the quest itself definitely won’t be a piece of cake. To defend the world from ultimate devilry, you will have to explore procedurally generated dungeons, confront over 70 monster species and fight a brigade of evil bosses, including the nasty Archdemon. If some of you would like to hang out in the catacombs a bit longer, well, of course you can – there’s a Freeplay mode where you can master your favorite quests and rise to the challenge by completing the game on higher difficulty levels.

We’re really excited to bring Book of Demons to Xbox One – we think the game fits the Xbox One controller extremely well and that everyone should be satisfied with the number of Achievements we prepared ;).
