Destiny: Rise of Iron Coming to Xbox One on September 20

Destiny fans, you’ll want to pay attention to this: We’ve finally got some new details on Bungie’s new Destiny expansion, and they are juicy indeed. Get hyped, because Destiny: Rise of Iron is set to launch on September 20 for Xbox One!

Along with a brand-new raid, Rise of Iron will bring new weapons, armor, gear, and story missions to Destiny players who are eager for more content. The expansion will also include a new social area, similar to existing areas the Tower and the Reef. This area is called the Felwinter Peak, and it’s covered in frost… and, we might add, it’s very gorgeous. It’s fully explorable and nonlinear, and the land has been tainted by a technological plague known as SIVA.

Which leads us to the new enemy faction – a mutated version of the game’s first enemies, the insect-like scavengers called the Fallen. Rise of Iron’s story will revolve around these uglies: “The wall which stood for centuries along the southern border of Old Russia has collapsed,” Bungie said. “Fallen mutants now scavenge the tombs of the Golden Age, and the plague they have unearthed in the wastes is more dangerous than even they understand. Join Lord Saladin. Journey into the Plaguelands. Learn the fate of the Iron Lords and stop the growing threat before it is too late.”

The Destiny development team has revealed that the first mission in the campaign will revolve around the reclamation of Felwinter Peak, a dilapidated old fortification set against the enemies of the Iron Lords.

Bungie has also unveiled some of the game’s new weapons, including the new Iron Gjallarhorn, which looks like an awesome re-imagining of Destiny’s most sought after weapon. There will also be a new Strike mission, as well as more Crucible player-versus-player maps.

If you want to be ready for the $29.99 expansion when it launches in September, you’ll need to be sure to have the base game, as well as the first three expansions (The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King). Expect room to grow, too: In addition to the new weapons and gear, there will be a higher level cap to boot.

Saddle up, space jockeys, because September 20 is just over the horizon!
