An Exciting Night for Indies at the British Academy Game Awards

Last night, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) honored some of the top games from the past year at the British Academy Game Awards, and it was a big night for independent games. All of us at Xbox were excited to see the breadth of innovation on stage from developers all over the world.

Among the big winners of the night was Playdead’s INSIDE, which won four BAFTAs in Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative and Original Property. The dark and clever puzzle platformer made its console debut on Xbox One last June to critical acclaim, with universal praise for its adept storytelling and unique gameplay experience, and a sterling 93 rating on Metacritic.

It was a big night for independent games in general. In addition to INSIDE, several ID@Xbox games were recognized, with Team17’s Overcooked winning in the British and Family categories and Campo Santo’s Firewatch taking home Debut Game and Performer. Finally, 505 Games’ Virginia nabbed the Music award.

Congratulations to all the winners, and be sure to check them out on Xbox One today.

As Head of Xbox Phil Spencer noted in February, 2017 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years ever for Xbox gamers. We are preparing to launch the most powerful console ever made this holiday – Project Scorpio – along with a diverse lineup of games. We are committed to delivering even more exclusive games for both Xbox One and Windows 10, with a bigger and more differentiated first-party lineup that started with Halo Wars 2 in February and continues later this year with Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2 and much more.

Stay tuned to Xbox Wire for all the latest on Xbox One and Windows 10 gaming this year.
