Getting Lost in Shape of the World Coming Soon to Xbox One

Hey there! My name is Stu, I worked as a senior VFX artist on Gears of War 4 and I’m stoked to present my very first indie title, Shape of the World to the Xbox community!

Shape of the World is an exploration game about getting yourself pleasantly lost. It will take you on a journey through an environment of evolving landscapes, flourishing plants and graceful creatures, a world that literally bursts into life before your eyes.

Every step you take will leave a trace on the environment you’re exploring. The forest only materializes around you when you get close, re-growing in a new way each time you pass. As you wander, interacting with graceful animals and imposing monoliths, your choices will alter the world you discover in vibrant and unexpected ways, leaving you wondering what will happen with each path you forge and every hollow you stumble upon.

When I started the game, my family and professional life were sliding gradually towards the hectic rhythm of modern life. Shape of the World won’t have you racing to make the best score, nothing is urging you forward, you’re free to progress at your own pace. My aim was to create a place where you can get lost and relax.

I wanted this world to be something out of the ordinary, a psychedelically colorful environment of flowering trees, glowing monoliths and graceful creatures. When you’re not riding boardwalks, collecting seeds or discovering monuments, you might want to follow an animal around for a little while, just to feel more like a part of this alien place.

Adaptive sound design helps you to lose yourself, not only in the physical sense, but in the immersion of something new, fresh and out of the ordinary. Maybe you’ll fly with some whales, or dive into a lake teeming with jellyfish, but it will all be accompanied by an immersive soundtrack and numerous ambient undertones triggered with each new discovery.

I really hope that you’ll be as thrilled to experience Shape of the World as I am to am to present it to you! I’ll be answering any questions that you have about it here in the comments and you can bump me on Twitter if you like, I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you’ve seen so far.
