The Gears 5 Esports Mexico City Major kicks off today and goes through March 8 at the World Trade Center in Mexico City. More than 70 teams from the Gears Esports Pro League and the open bracket will be competing to prove their skills and compete for a $240,000 prize pool. Local favorites Estral Esports and Pittsburgh Knights will attempt to ride the momentum of the home crowd to push to victory over defending champs Reciprocity Gaming and UYU (the most dominant team in Gears Esports history).
All attendees are eligible to compete in the 2v2 Gnashers and Free for All tournaments. Registration will take place at the venue and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis. But that’s not all – Those attending the Major can get an exclusive preview of the brand-new Gears of War card game ahead of its official release as well.
The Coalition has teamed up with tabletop games publisher Steamforged Games (Dark Souls: The Card Game, Resident Evil 2: The Board Game) to introduce a new way to enjoy the acclaimed gameplay, compelling characters, and visceral action that Gears players know and love: Gears of War: The Card Game.
Due to release later this year, the card game will be available to play for the first time at the Gears 5 Esports Mexico City Major this weekend, and Steamforged Games will be at the event to offer attendees the world’s first demos of the game and a special promotional card giveaway.
