Call of Duty: Warzone Launches Today on Xbox One, Free for Xbox Live Gold Members
Call of Duty: Warzone, the massive combat experience from the world of Modern Warfare, has launched and is free for all Xbox Live Gold members to play. Up to 150 players and two thrilling game modes on one massive battleground: this is Warzone.
Warzone’s New Player Experience
When playing for the first time, you’ll be taken through orientation which shows you key mechanics of the Warzone experience. Jump into this tutorial and learn important controls such as aiming and firing, using the ping system, purchasing items from Buy Stations, and more.
From here, you can launch into a practice Battle Royale match with bots. Use this as a way to get familiar with the map of Verdansk and get accustomed to the first-person shooting mechanics.
A Tale of Two Modes
Experience the thrill of two different ways to explore and play Warzone: Battle Royale and Plunder.
Overview: Battle Royale
Drop in with your team of three to be the last squad standing. After parachuting down, your team is called to armor up, loot for rewards, and battle your way to the top spot. Just make sure to stay away from the gas that gradually encloses the circle of play.
There are two Battle Royale innovations worth mentioning: Cash and the Gulag.
Cash is an in-match currency that players use to purchase tactical advantages. Cash is earned by looting supply boxes around the map, completing contracts, and stealing from eliminated enemies. You can use it to purchase valuable items such as Killstreaks that gain intel or power over opponents or Self-Revive Kits to bring back eliminated teammates.
The Gulag is a way to earn your way back into the fight. After your first elimination in Battle Royale, you are taken as to the Gulag as a Prisoner of Warzone. Here you can fight for a chance of redeployment in a 1v1 match. The winner gets to parachute back down into the map, while the loser remains out of the match unless a teammate earns enough in-match Cash to redeploy them. You can only battle in the Gulag once, so stay on high alert and don’t hold back in this chance for redemption.
Overview: Plunder
A race to collect and protect as much in-match Cash as possible. Plunder is a new take on a large-scale battleground that rewards squads that play strategically. Drop into a match with a chosen loadout, respawn as many times as needed, and collaborate with your teammates on the best way to earn in-match Cash.
You can earn Cash by finding it around the map of Verdansk, in supply boxes, from various bank locations, completing contracts, or stealing from downed opponents. While there are unlimited respawns, it’s important to stay alive because a percentage of in-match Cash is lost with each death. To defend your earnings, players can protect in-match Cash by depositing it at Cash Deposit Helipads or by using a Cash Deposit Balloon which can be found in some Supply Boxes or purchased at Buy Stations.
When the first team reaches the $1 million mark, the bonus round timer starts. This is a timed period where squads must compete for the top spot in a no holds barred competition to stack their in-match Cash before time runs out.
