For over nine months now, Atlas has been thrilling players on Xbox One with a deep survival experience in a world of pirate fantasy. Players begin with nothing and struggle to survive against the elements, hunger, hostile creatures, and the apex predator — other players. Crafting weapons and defenses, they carve out their niche and build their piece of the world with ships and steel.
Enter The Maelstrom
Now, join us once again on a whole new map — The Maelstrom! We’ve moved away from the traditional equatorial view of the world in favor of gameplay richer circular experience. Now, the hardest stuff is in the middle. Everyone starts out in the “middle ring,” but high-level players will be drawn to the middle while lower level players can seek refuge at the edges of the world. Resources are now spread out in a swirl to encourage more world travel, and the world has been tightened up to make that easier. Across the board, we think this makes for a super fun world to play in.
On the Horizon
Stay tuned as we’re making lots of changes under the hood. The launch of Maelstrom sets the stage for Season 4 of Atlas and a host of new features, from new ships to Tradewinds, to a new commerce system. The team is pulling out all the stops to get new and interesting features into the game.
Soon you will start seeing the first phases of the commerce system. The Farm and the Warehouse will be the first to drop, helping you gather and store resources to grow your company or pirate band. We’ll talk about these and what they lead to in the coming weeks as we lay the groundwork for some really big, new features. Hop on board, it’s going to be a fun ride.
