Destiny 2: Beyond Light has arrived. With it, players unlock a new destination, new Exotic weapons, armor, and Stasis: The newest elemental power joining the original trio of Arc, Solar, and Void. The story continues and the world of Destiny 2 has evolved. So, before you start freezing your opponents with Stasis, let’s catch up.
Last Time on Destiny
During Season of Arrivals, Guardians were faced with the arrival of a mysterious force that threatened humanity. The goal of this new enemy was unclear, their weakness unknown, and Guardians struggled to respond. The appearance of this new enemy represented a very old and ever-present force in the universe that was now embodied by the Pyramid ships.
When the Vanguard called on the protectors of humanity to investigate the Pyramids and the mysterious messages being broadcast, Guardians decoded transmissions, built a new arsenal, and even braved a new dungeon in the mysterious dimension of the Nine. With only the scarcest of clues to guide their way, they grasped at anything that might have given them the edge they needed.
Guardians began to secure their footing and make headway, but it wasn’t enough. In the end, entire planets vanished from the solar system. And the Traveler – still hovering above the Last City – had activated and reformed.
Go Beyond the Light
Now, in the dawn of this cataclysmic event, allies have banded together. With their assistance, it’s decided that the Pyramid ship on the moon of Europa presents the best chance at facing this mysterious threat. And so, Guardians will venture into this frozen frontier with the Light bolstering their spirits even as they are tempted by a new Dark power.
This power was merely a whisper in Season of Arrivals. Now in Beyond Light, players understand that these whispers foreshadowed the new elemental power, Stasis. How they decide to respond to this temptation may have lasting repercussions that will echo throughout time. Look no further than the Fallen Kell of Darkness, Eramis, to see how obsession can invite ruin.
Eramis, the Fallen Kell of Darkness
Eramis seeks to restore the glory of her people. To exact revenge on the Traveler for abandoning them. Now imbued with the power of Stasis, she has found the ultimate tool to achieve her aims. Guardians will be called to stop Eramis before she can bestow it upon her growing army.
The introduction of Stasis in Beyond Light will have ramifications for players across all aspects of the game. Stasis is the domain of control; an elemental power that is less about outright aggression and more about careful control of enemy combatants and space.
Once on Europa, Guardians will have their hands full with a Golden Age Braytech facility, new strike, and new raid to explore. Tying everything together is a snow-covered wasteland with dynamic storms that ratchet up the danger already posed by the forces inhabiting the frozen moon.
Remnants of this now-mythical corporation lie half-buried beneath the ice. Largely intact and frozen in time, Guardians will traverse the ruins of this facility, uncover the dark truth behind what happened here, and fight for the Golden Age technology.
Within the Asterion Abyss on Europa lies a Braytech facility that holds a very unique Vex portal. Eramis, the Fallen Kell of Darkness, has ventured here intending to use this long-dormant gateway for some unknown purpose.
Deep Stone Crypt
The Deep Stone Crypt raid opens on November 21. Deep beneath the surface of Europa lies a facility created by Clovis Bray during the Golden Age to house his most sensitive experiments. The knowledge of what it holds was lost to time… until now.
Stasis won’t be the only new aspect of a Guardian’s arsenal. Fortunately, Europa is a Golden Age treasure trove, teeming with technology frozen in time and ripe for the picking. Exotics like the Exo Stranger’s Pulse Rifle: No Time to Explain, are just the tip of the iceberg.
No Time to Explain
Precision hits and hits against enemies affected by Stasis will return ammo to the magazine. Stack this effect to summon a portal which will fire bullets from an alternate timeline of the weapon.
A New Age
The future of Destiny 2 starts today with Beyond Light and will continue in the following years with The Witch Queen and Lightfall.
And although the road stretches to the stars and into the unknown, how Guardians will wield new powers and weapons – how they engage with new allies, villains, and destinations remains to be seen. The future of each Guardian, of each Clan and each fireteam, remains to be written. This is the first step, the turning of a page, the dawn of a new Age.
