A brand-new update for Cyberpunk 2077 is now available, aptly named the Edgerunners Update – just in time for the premiere of the anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”! It brings a host of new content including features hotly requested by the community. We’re really excited to bring this to you, and here we’ll be diving deeper into what you can get your hands on when you boot up Cyberpunk 2077 after downloading the free Edgerunners Update for yourself.
Let’s start with the obvious – the Edgerunners influence. It’s more than just a catchy name for the update; with the Edgerunners Update we’ve really tried to make the anime series we’ve created in collaboration with Studio Trigger and Netflix feel like a part of Cyberpunk 2077’s world. That’s why you’ll find some in-game Edgerunners goodies taken straight from the anime – including a shotgun used by one of the characters from the show, as well as a Legendary jacket, which will take some extra work to find (no spoilers!), ready for your V to use.
Outside of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners goodies, the Edgerunners Update (also known as Patch 1.6) adds plenty of other content to the game. There are a few features that the community has been talking a lot about, and that’s a core part of this update – listening to the community and adding cool stuff that just makes the experience more fun, more engaging, and more personal. One of these features is the Wardrobe. This is the name of our clothing transmogrification system. With this system, players can now use any apartment they have access to create custom outfits using the clothes they own. That means creating a whole new style that is completely your own – without affecting the stats of your clothing at all. You can customize your outfits and save up to 6 of them, and then you can access any saved outfit directly from your inventory at any time. The transmogged clothing is displayed on V as a holographic projection, so it doesn’t have any effect on stats; it’s purely a tool for you to experiment and create styles your V can then rock on the streets of Night City.
There are a lot of Easter eggs in Cyberpunk 2077, but the Roach Race arcade cabinets seen throughout Night City are definitely among the most popular. They were a nice visual addition to the game, but they didn’t serve any functional purpose… until now! With the Edgerunners Update, you can now play the Roach Race minigame for yourself at arcade cabinets in the city, and as you set high scores, you’ll even unlock some rewards such as cash and unique items. And to make it even more meta, we have also released a free version of Roach Race on iOS and Android – so you can play the game wherever you want, whether you’re in Cyberpunk 2077 or out and about in the real world.
Photo mode is one of the most popular tools in the game. We see players sharing amazing shots on social media, and we’ve even hosted Photo Mode Challenges for our community to take part in. So how do we make it even better? Easy: Cats. Well, one cat in particular – Nibbles! With this update, once you’ve gained the trust of Nibbles and he’s made himself at home in your apartment, you can now pose with him in photo mode anywhere in Night City! Our prediction is that Nibbles will be popping up more and more on social media now that he’s ready for the spotlight.
Beyond the content highlighted so far, we also have a selection of new weapons, new gigs, and a pretty important feature in cross-platform progression. Now you can upload progress to the cloud and access your save between platforms where you own the game. It’s a useful feature that can just make life easier for players, and really helps widen the options when playing the game. So, for example, you could boot up on Xbox Series X|S, save your progress, and pick back up on PC seamlessly. Neat!
We also have the much-requested 60FPS performance mode coming to Xbox Series S consoles. This was something players have been asking about since our new-gen update, and it’s great to say that we have put the work in to make sure this feature is now available. In this mode, the game aims for 60FPS at 900p with dynamic resolution scaling in the 800-1080p range.
With the Edgerunners Update, we’ve made this a real celebration of both the Cyberpunk 2077 anime and our community. We hope you’re ready to check it all out for yourself — and we can’t wait to see all your cat pictures, too!
