New Features and Experiences

We have exciting news! Alpha Skip-Ahead users can expect something new coming to their Xbox Update Preview.

Capture & Share

A new playback and editing app called Captures is now available, accessible through both Guide and My games & apps. You will recognize a lot of the existing functionality now with an updated UI and improved performance, as well as new option to copy your local captures to an external drive.

Home

Starting today, all Alpha Skip-Ahead users will now see various layout, design, and ease of access changes as we experiment with different approaches for the dashboard. Help us shape the new Home experience, details here and here. If you encounter any issues with the new experience, please file feedback under Dashboard > New Home Experience.

Live Streaming via Twitch

When streaming to Twitch from the Guide, you can now do so using your Lightstream or Streamlabs subscription, if you have one linked to your Twitch account. To do so, change the “Destination” drop-down on the “Live streaming options” page.

My Games & Apps

We have re-added the additional warning badges in My Games & Apps for installed games that you don’t have a license for, and for games that will need a disc inserted before they are playable.

Search

With this release, we will be experimenting with improvements to search results relevancy with a random subset of users.

Xbox Wireless Headset

A new version of the Xbox Wireless Headset firmware is available starting today, which includes various minor bug fixes.

Fixes Implemented

Thanks to the hard work of Xbox engineers, we are happy to announce the following fixes have been implemented for this build:

Capture & Share

  • Fixed an issue where the audio and video could be out of sync when watching a recorded clip.

System

  • Fixes to address an issue which prevented the console from updating correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the console would turn on unexpectedly.
  • Fixes to address an issue where the console would sleep instead of shutting down as expected.
  • Various updates to properly reflect local languages across the console.
    • Note: Users participating in Preview may see “odd” text across the console, for more information go here.

Known Issues

We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These items aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution.

Apps

  • We are investigating reports of users experiencing stuttering playback in streaming apps.

Audio

  • We have received reports of users experiencing intermittent issues with audio across the dashboard, games, and apps.
    • Note: If you experience issues with audio, please submit feedback via Report a Problem immediately with the “Reproduce with advanced diagnostics” option and include the following:
      • When did the issue start? After a console update, reboot, resume, etc.
      • Did you lose audio just in the game/app or system audio as well?
      • Does changing the audio format resolve the issue? If yes, what was the format before and after?
      • Does rebooting resolve the issue?
      • What does your setup look like? Equipment, layout, etc.
      • And any additional information you can provide to reproduce the problem.

Controllers

  • We’ve received some reports that users’ controllers are randomly losing sync or disconnecting from the console. If you encounter this behavior, please be sure to report this issue after reconnecting.

Discord Voice

  • Attempting to browse Discord servers while in an active party will switch you from party chat to game chat. If you decide not to join a Discord Voice call and remain in your party, to switch back to party chat, navigate back to the party, select Options, and toggle the ‘Switch to game chat’ button.

Games

  • We are aware of performance issues that occur when a USB steering wheel is connected to your console and a game is played, and we are working on a fix.
    • Workaround: If the USB steering wheel is disconnected, system performance should return to normal.

HDMI-CEC

  • We’ve received some reports that HDMI-CEC is not working correctly.
    • Note: Ensure that your TV supports HDMI-CEC and is also enabled before filing feedback.

Live Streaming via Twitch

  • Streaming to StreamLabs with any resolution other than 720p does not render correctly. We are working on a fix.

My Games & Apps

  • Titles in collection may incorrectly appear with a “trial” tag.

TV/Display

  • Some users have reported that the console is displaying at the incorrect resolution on boot.  We are aware and investigating.
    • Note: If you encounter this behavior, please ensure that you submit feedback via Report a Problem immediately. Please include the make/model of you TV/Display in the description.
    • Workaround: Restarting the console via the Power menu (Holding down the Xbox button displays the power menu) should resolve the behavior.  If not, ensure you are looking at the troubleshooting here, specifically the section about ensuring your TV firmware is up to date.

Make sure to use Report a problem to keep us informed of your issue. We may not be able to respond to everyone, but the data we’ll gather is crucial to finding a resolution.
