Today is a very special day for us at Techland. After years of hard work, we are thrilled to finally unleash the next chapter of the Dying Light franchise – Dying Light: The Beast! This game is the culmination of everything we’ve learned in more than a decade, pushing the boundaries of survival horror, action and parkour to their limits.
You’ll step into the shoes of Kyle Crane – the hero of the original Dying Light – once more, but he’s a changed man. Captured and tortured for years, he’s been subject to brutal experiments that have twisted his DNA. They tried to break him. They created the Beast. Turned into a hybrid of human and monster, you’ll have inhuman strength, allowing you to rip zombies apart with your bare hands and leap further than ever before. But these powers come with a price: you’re constantly on the verge of losing control, and the world outside the lab is a hell of its own.

Welcome to Castor Woods, a stunning yet deadly open world where every corner holds a new story of survival. We’ve poured our hearts into creating a truly immersive environment, from an old touristy town – the perfect parkour paradise – to dense forests and swamps – taking your fear to the next level if night creeps up on you while you’re out there. The dynamic weather and lighting systems make this world feel alive, and the tension is palpable.
When the sun sets and the true horrors come out, you’ll feel that shift from hunter to hunted in your bones. The Volatiles are back and they are more relentless than ever. They’re faster, smarter, and deadlier than ever with increased senses making it easier for them to notice you and once they do, hunt you in packs. You’ll really need to run, hide or fight.
And you haven’t even met the deadliest enemies of all – the Chimeras. Just like Kyle, they were twisted experiments from Baron’s lab – meaty monstrosities with one purpose only: kill! Everything about them tells you to run, but you need their blood to unlock new Beast skills of your own…

What You Should Know Before You Start
When you step into Castor Woods, you will feel the grounded realism and nail-biting survival horror – Dying Light: The Beast is not just another action game, you need to be smart to survive. To help you get started on your journey, our Game Director Nathan Lemaire shared some of his top tips for new players.
- Be careful of Biters: Kyle has been weakened by years of experiment and isolation. While a biter alone poses no threat, in groups they are deadly. Think before engaging a bigger group and don’t hesitate to use crowd control tools such as Molotov or decoys.
- Be smart, not dead: Remember that Dying Light is a survival horror game. Your sharpest weapon is not a blade or a gun or a saw-blade launcher (even though this one is much fun!) – it’s your brain. In a world where everything wants to kill you, you need to pick your fights wisely. Use your parkour skills or stealth because every sound might attract more zombies to your location and an easy situation can quickly turn into an uncontrollable fight for survival.

- Crafting is the key: Crafting tools and weapons are very important to survive and expand your abilities to tackle harder challenges. Explore Dark Zones, where you will find many components to craft. Each Dark zone also contains a unique item, for people who like collecting!
- Safe Zones are your beacons in the darkness of nights: While exploring Castor Woods, you will find abandoned safe zones or safe spots ready to be activated again. They will provide you a safe haven, where you will be able to pass time, check your stash, and access a workbench to expand your crafting capabilities. Watch out for these and unlock them so they are prepared when you need them – don’t wait until it’s too late!
- Look out for Fuel: Fuel is important to keep your vehicles running, but also to craft munition for your flamethrower. Fortunately, old vehicles across the valley may have some left in their tank. And if you would like a good supply, look out for gas stations.

- Change your pace at Night: During the Night, Volatiles are roaming. They are all around you and are attracted to noises and your flashlight. When venturing out at night, you need to slow down the pace and be mindful of your surroundings to avoid them spotting you. And if they spot you and start chasing you, run as fast as you can, try to lose them, or run to the closest safe zone or safe spot.
We can’t wait for you to experience Kyle’s newest adventure and to reveal all the secrets we carefully hid all over the Castor Woods. Get ready to unleash the Beast within you! Dying Light: The Beast is available today for Xbox Series X|S.
