Lair Of The Clockwork God Comes to Xbox One on September 4

Hello! I’m Dan from BAFTA winning Size Five Games, and I’m here today to tell you about Lair of the Clockwork God, our latest release which is launching on Xbox One on September 4th!

In Lair of the Clockwork God each of the protagonists represents a completely different video game genre. If that sounds like dumb, hard work and that it won’t work at all, please allow me to explain:

You’ll be able to switch between two characters on your journey. Ben is a die-hard, old-school, point-and-click Adventurer. His head is stuck circa 1995. He loves collecting (stealing) things and combining them in his inventory, and generally waffling his way through life with a fairly lax,laissez-faire approach to moral fortitude.

His cohort Dan has decided there’s no money to be made in adventuring, and from now on he’s going to be an indie darling Platformer instead. He loves jumping, running extremely quickly, and convincing himself that pushing crates around is somehow a deep, clever allegory for the human condition.

Each character has their own unique skills and play styles; find items as Ben, stick them together in your inventory to create better things for Dan, who can then access new areas and unlock even more items for Ben. And so on and so on.

You’ll join Dan and Ben in a bit of a pickle. All the Apocalypses have somehow rocked up at the exact same time (yes, all of them, you name it, it’s there; Global Thermonuclear War, giant robots, swarms of wasps with little swords, the wi-fi has gone pretty unreliable, that sort of thing), and while cowering pathetically in a bunker, our heroes stumble across a mysterious old computer with a Big Face that needs teaching about core human emotions in order to save the Earth from annihilation.

You see, like any good indie game, the aim of Clockwork God is to make you feel a great swathe of confusing emotions, so as you play various levels themed around concepts like Joy, Fear and Grief, the computer absorbs those concepts, growing more and more human itself, with the hopes that it’ll find enough empathy in its tiny metal diodes to help save the planet. It’s all very relevant and modern.

I tell you which human emotion I like the best and that’s the basic primal sense of glee from a MASSIVE BARGAIN which is why you can head to the Microsoft Store right now and pre-order Lair of the Clockwork God for a whopping 15% discount!

If you want to see more, head over to Twitter to find me @Danthat because obviously I’ll now be banging on about this game until the actual heat death of the Universe.

Cheers!
