RWBY: Grimm Eclipse is Now Available on Xbox One

Today we’ve come full circle from just being fans of games to developing and publishing our very first console game: RWBY: Grimm Eclipse for Xbox One! We couldn’t have made this journey without the love and dedication from our fans, or the passionate, talented teams throughout Rooster Teeth. In particular, the animation team working on the RWBY animated series that has become an international hit.

With over-the-top, choreographed combat sequences featuring martial arts and magical weapons, the show has all the trappings to make an exciting video game. Featuring four main protagonists — Team RWBY featuring Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long — we’ve created an online co-op experience centered around one core concept: playing online with your friends as Team RWBY. In Grimm Eclipse, teamwork gets the job done, and there are unique mechanics like team attacks that feature you and a teammate working together to slay powerful enemies.

Grimm Eclipse will feature an additional pack of four playable characters each with their own combat styles. Team JNPR is composed of Jaune Arc, Nora Valkyrie, Pyrrha Nikos, and Lie Ren and will be available as DLC starting on January 18, 2017.

We have so many people to thank for making Rooster Teeth’s first full game come to fruition, but there’s one person who was the catalyst for making a RWBY: Grimm Eclipse come to life is Jordan Scott.

Scott is a young, aspiring game developer from Canada and a huge fan of the show. He created a co-op hack and slash game with his own character models and he had no idea the positive reception that awaited him once Rooster Teeth and the creators of RWBY, including the late Monty Oum, caught wind of his fan-created game.

In the months following the initial prototype, Rooster Teeth assembled a game development team with the sole purpose of bringing Scott’s game to life. From these humble beginnings, the game got bigger and better, with assets pulled straight from the show and put in Grimm Eclipse to give it the authenticity that fans wanted.

The writers from RWBY also got involved, helping the development team carve out an exclusive storyline that expands on the lore and backstory of the RWBY universe. (For those who follow the show, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse takes place between volume 1 and 2 of the show). Additionally, the game features fully voiced dialog in its story campaign including several from the show’s cast, as well as an all new character exclusive to the game who’s voiced by prolific voice actor, Dave Fennoy.

We would also like to thank our partner in console development, Panic Button Games, who has worked alongside Rooster Teeth Games to achieve our dream of bringing this game to console. Panic Button has been responsible for developing several top-notch games such as Rocket League from Psyonic and ReCore from Microsoft Game Studios. With an experienced partner like Panic Button in our corner, we could deliver a solid experience from start to finish on Xbox One.

With that being said, we anxiously await Xbox One gamers to finally getting their hands on RWBY: Grimm Eclipse on Tuesday, January 17th. Go Team RWBY!
