October Was a Great Month for PC: Back 4 Blood, Age of Empires IV, Windows 11, and More

Welcome keyboard warriors! Last month was an absolute unit of a month for PC news, updates, and games. Let’s do a quick recap of October for anything you might have missed.

Age of Empires IV
I am not obligated to call out that Age of Empires IV launched last week, I just really needed to type it out here because I am super excited to play it. The Age of Empires legacy spans over 20 years – that’s been a lot of gaming. Now you can make history your story! Join everyone who played on day one with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Ultimate. We were so excited to launch this game, we literally launched it and a lot of other things with a fully functional trebuchet and Thor Björnsson (The Mountain)! And if you want even more Age of Empires IV, check out our deep dive on the game on the Xbox YouTube channel!

Back 4 Blood
Another amazing day one addition to Xbox Game Pass! Launched in October, Back 4 Blood (brought to you from the creators of the Left 4 Dead franchise), is a thrilling cooperative first-person shooter. Play the competitive multiplayer as human or Ridden, or the intense 4 player co-op narrative campaign. And check out the custom PCs created by Austin Evans and UrAvgConsumer, and the key caps by tinymakesthings all celebrating Back 4 Blood – because Game Pass has PC games.

Minecraft Live: Minecraft PC Bundle Coming to Game Pass for PC

Last month at Minecraft Live, Mojang Studios announced that Minecraft is coming tomorrow, November 2 to Game Pass for PC! The Minecraft PC Bundle is exclusive to Game Pass for PC and gives players access to both Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Bedrock Edition in one game launcher.

Windows 11: Built for PC Gaming

Our friends over at Windows announced the newest operating system with some amazing updates that can make your games look and run better than ever.

Here’s what you can expect when you upgrade, or buy a new device that comes with Windows 11:

  • Superior graphics with Auto HDR – your games will automatically have High Dynamic Range (HDR) enhancements applied to your games that were built on DirectX 11 or higher
  • High Performance at Amazing Speeds –With a high performance NVMe SSD and the proper drivers, games utilizing DirectStorage can better load games without over taxing the CPU.
  • Windows 11 also includes the Xbox app built right in. Through the Xbox app you can browse, download and play over 100 high-quality PC games with Game Pass for PC (membership sold separately).

That’s it for October! Hope you found some new games to play, that your mouse is fully charged when you sit down to play, and that your headphones are always cool. November is already off to a great start, with news earlier this morning that several newly announced games are joining the Xbox Game Pass for PC library over the next two weeks, such as It Takes Two, Unpacking, and Football Manager 2022. You can keep up with our game news at or stay tuned to the Wire. Talk to you soon!
