I can’t begin to tell you how excited the Tripwire team is to be launching Killing Floor 2 on Xbox One, a fast-paced, action packed co-op survival horror shooter with monstrous enemies, a massive array of unique weaponry, 10 perk classes and the most advanced gore system ever created. The Xbox One version of Killing Floor 2 brings some exciting new additions such as the Freezethrower weapon and Mixer integration where you can actually interact with the game just from watching the Mixer stream; it’s really next-level stuff.

Killing Floor 2 was a dream project for the team and myself to work on. Having worked on the original Killing Floor and being a huge fan of the horror genre, it was an amazing journey to take that original concept and start fresh from a blank slate and fully realize our vision for what Killing Floor could be. We started with a few key pillars that would drive our design throughout development and brought us to the current version of the game. I say current because for us Killing Floor 2 is a living game, one which we plan to keep alive with free content and feature updates. The original Killing Floor had a long history of this and we hope to support Killing Floor 2 in a similar way.

One of our major focuses was on gore, to create the most advanced gore system ever created. The system became so big we had to give it a name and the M.E.A.T. system was born. M.E.A.T. stands for Massive Evisceration and Trauma. It’s a collection of several different features that come together to create a fantastic spectacle of blood and guts that gives the player satisfaction after every Zed kill. One of my favorite parts of the M.E.A.T. system is the Persistent Blood System. Blood from the battle lasts the entire game, so after killing hordes of zeds you can almost literally cover the entire level in blood.

We were also focused on making the best-feeling weapons in a first-person shooter. Most of Killing Floor 2‘s weapon animations are animated at over 200 frames a second. To put that in perspective, the original Killing Floor‘s weapons were animated at 30 frames per second. Killing Floor 2 has a feature called Zed Time, where time slows down. When it does you can really appreciate all the detail put into the weapon animations as you’re exploding Zed heads all around you. We’ve even modeled the jiggle of the barrel that we witnessed while studying videos of guns firing in slow motion. A lot of this is so high detail that only your subconscious can pick it up, but the end result is weapons that feel amazing and satisfying to shoot in real time or Zed Time.

The final thing I’d like to mention is Killing Floor 2‘s Mixer integration. We’re excited to be the first game released featuring Mixer’s new 2.0 level of interactivity! While watching a Mixer stream of Killing Floor 2 with interaction enabled you can either help or hurt the streamer. You can choose to give the streamer some health or armor in a life or death moment and help a survival. Or, if you’re the more sadistic type, you can puke on a streamer and obscure vision for a short time, or even spawn a huge Flesh Pound enemy creature! This type of interaction is hilarious to watch and takes the streamer and viewer interaction to a whole new level!

I’d like to thank all the players out there for checking out Killing Floor 2, and we’re really excited about what the future holds in terms of free content updates and support, and to see how amazing Killing Floor 2 looks later this year enhanced for Xbox One X.
