New Smite Update Brings an All-new Goddess and Pantheon to the Battleground
Tiamat, Goddess of the Salt Sea, joins Smite as the 113th god and introduces the new Babylonian Pantheon, available today on Xbox One.
The stone tablets of Babylon describe the beginning of the mortal realm – a place of chaos – until the arrival of Tiamat. She destroyed the chaos and filled the cosmic void with the water of the salt sea. Tiamat is the mother of everything — including the first gods, who rose against her in defiance. From her fury, she spawned monsters to punish the betraying the gods.
Tiamat enters the Smite battleground at the brink of its destruction. She frees the world from Cthulhu’s control and banishes him back to the depths. Yet, her motives are not selfless. This is now her kingdom to rule, recreated to fit her desires. And she is ready to wage war against any that try to stand against her.
When designing Tiamat, the team wanted to focus on her monstrous form: a divine goddess that is draconic and elegant. Her visual design is inspired by aquatic creatures as well as the jewelry of Babylonian royalty. The concept team experimented with many different presentations of Tiamat from body shape to animal type. The final design showcases a balance between beastly power and a queen’s pose and grace.
Tiamat is a stance-changing mage. We wanted to use these stances to incorporate her conflicted personality in her kit. The flying stance will be elegant and elevated whereas her ground stance will be raging and roaring. The flying stance will feature more long ranged magical damage while the ground stance will feature Tiamat on all fours to do brutish melee attacks in the thick of battle. In addition, she’ll be able to spawn monsters to do her bidding and duplicate jungle buffs, leaning into the theme that the mother of monsters is truly in control of the battleground.
Want to make sure you have everything you need to get started with Tiamat? The Season Pass 2021 has you covered. You’ll get all the following incredible content for Tiamat and for every additional Season 8 god as they are released in 2021: voice pack, limited ascended skin, additional tier 1 skin, emotes (wave and clap.) If you don’t own the God Pack, you’ll also unlock Tiamat and all new Season 8 gods as well.
Also, in this update, we are bringing new changes to the esports and live stream hub. There will be new skins entering the rotation as well as the new Viewer Pass Bundle featuring Voodoo Rock Baron Samedi. These changes are in anticipation of the new Smite Pro League season. Be on the lookout for team announcements coming very soon!
The Dawn of Babylon event is still live with all new content including Wildstyle Mulan, Arachnoid Arachne, and more. Be sure to check out this event before it is gone.
I hope that everyone logs in and tries out the first goddess of Season 8. Tiamat was a blast to work on and I can’t wait to see everyone on the battleground.
