Life is Strange 2 has been revealed and you can find out everything you need to know from this very first trailer. Life is Strange 2 features an entirely new cast of characters, a new storyline and yes, a new power…
The main characters this time are brothers Sean and Daniel Diaz. Sean, at 16 years of age, is embroiled in the usual high school intricacies you might expect at that age. His younger brother Daniel looks up to Sean and his friends while remaining playfully cheeky. The two live in Seattle with their father Esteban, who works as a car mechanic.
The brother’s peaceful life, however, is struck with sudden tragedy and they are forced to flee, leaving their home and everything they have behind. They must now make a run for their family’s home town of Puerto Lobos, Mexico while being pursued by the police and haunted by questions of what happened and what is to come.
Earlier this year, we unveiled The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit during the Microsoft conference at E3. This free demo contained details of what Life is Strange 2 is about, but in true Life is Strange fashion, it contained a number of red herrings alongside the nuggets of truth!
Spoilers for both Captain Spirit and Life is Strange 2 ahead, so turn back now if you haven’t yet played Captain Spirit or would prefer to go into Life is Strange 2 with as little information as possible!
The first of the above-mentioned truth-nuggets is a newspaper excerpt you can find in Chris’ house. It mentions riots and protests that continue to mount in Seattle following the unexplained deaths of a local man and a police officer. This is, in fact, the incident we teased a few weeks ago. How exactly it plays out is something you’ll discover when you start Life is Strange 2 as it is also the point of origin for the game’s story. This is the reason why Sean and Daniel must go on the run and the catalyst for all that follows.
Another hint found in Captain Spirit occurs at the very end of Chris’ adventure when, after falling down from his tree-house, he sees two boys in the neighboring back garden. Though The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit ends before they can introduce themselves, these are actually Sean and Daniel. Observant fans have already pieced together that the dashcam footage shown in the teaser is from October 28, 2016, while Chris’ adventure appears to take place around Christmas time of the same year. This means that Chris encounters the brothers after they are forced to flee Seattle…
When we first envisioned Life is Strange 2, we saw that the possibilities that Life is Strange can offer us across an entire universe of storytelling, one that is built through weaving individual storylines that are compelling and immersive. Captain Spirit was a small glimpse into such a universe and Life is Strange 2 will only continue to expand upon this idea. We can’t wait for you to join us for this journey when Episode 1 of Life is Strange 2 releases on September 27 on Xbox One.
