An island nation is in the grip of a brutal tyrant. Unrest simmers on the streets of the capital city, and escalating tensions will soon boil over into full-on revolution. This is Far Cry 6, coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox One on February 18, 2021 to cast you in the role of a freedom fighter. As you struggle for the liberation of your homeland, Yara, there is one man above all who stands in your way: Antón Castillo. Portrayed by Emmy Award Nominee Giancarlo Esposito (“Better Call Saul,” “The Boys,” “The Mandalorian”), Castillo joins the ranks of such legendary Far Cry villains as Vaas, Pagan Min, and Joseph Seed as he promises to return the people of Yara to their former glory. But at what cost?
A pretty high cost, as it turns out. Castillo’s army is running roughshod over the populace, and the violence clashes starkly with the serene Caribbean waters, pristine beaches, and rich tropical forests of Yara. Your guerrilla campaign will sweep across the island, from the rural farmlands to the streets of Esperanza, the franchise’s first urban environment to date. And you won’t be fighting alone; many of the people and animals who call Yara home are fed up with Castillo’s reign and would do anything to stop him from grooming his son, Diego (played by Anthony Gonzalez of “Coco”), to take over his regime. With a powerful array of weapons, vehicles, and allies behind you — including Chorizo, the dangerously distracting wiener dog — Castillo is in for a fight.
Far Cry 6 is available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store now for Xbox One, and Smart Delivery will let you upgrade to the Xbox Series X version at no additional cost. Pre-ordering will unlock the Libertad Pack, which grants you a Libertad Outfit for Chorizo and a weaponized disc launcher called the “Discos Locos.” In addition to the Standard version of the game, the Gold and Ultimate versions are also available for pre-order on the Microsoft Store. The Gold Edition includes the Season Pass, while the Ultimate Edition adds a bevy of new content with the Ultimate pack, which includes the Jungle Expedition, Croc Hunter, and Vice packs.
If you’re hankering for some Far Cry fun before Far Cry 6 arrives on February 18, take advantage of some of the lowest prices in franchise history during the Far Cry sale going on right now in the Microsoft Store (Editor’s Note: from July 13 to July 20). Far Cry 3 for $3. Far Cry 4 for $6. Far Cry 5 for $9. That’s a lot of open-world havoc just waiting to be wreaked, and a lot of the aforementioned sinister villains to take down. Just be sure to act before the sale ends on July 20. Oh, and send Vaas my regards.
(Actually, please don’t. That man is very scary.)
