Larry Hryb: Welcome to [Shuner 00:00:26] five hundred and seventy seven, good afternoon, good morning, good night. My name's Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson here, we're fully staffed, ready to go, sitting to my right is uh, Laura Massey, hi Laura.
Laura Massey: Hello.
Larry Hryb: Lollipop, nice to see you here.
Laura Massey: Good to be here, been a while.
Larry Hryb: Uh, It has been. It has been quite some time.
Jeff Rubenstein: Too long.
Larry Hryb: Too long. And that's of course the voice of our good friend Jeff Rubenstein.
Jeff Rubenstein: I'm a good friend. I've been upgraded from casual acquaintance.
Larry Hryb: You are. You've always been a good friend, even since that day we met many years ago.
Jeff Rubenstein: And I've got many ability points to spend since then.
Larry Hryb: We are ... We, we've all been friends for a long time. That's what makes this fun. This, this is actually a fun time to me and kinda chat. We're doing the show, uh posting it a little bit earlier this week because uh fuck-
Jeff Rubenstein: Excuse me.
Larry Hryb: A few of you folks are headed out of town. I just got back into town, Laura's headed out of town, Jeffry's headed out of town and we wanted to make sure you had something to kind of, I mean, I gotta tell you it's kinda depressing.
Jeff Rubenstein: What, what?
Laura Massey: Why?
Jeff Rubenstein: That we're leaving you?
Larry Hryb: Well no no, it's that we're heading into the end of August and that historically means at least in northern Hemisphere, it's summer's kind of over.
Laura Massey: But I feel like summer's just started.
Jeff Rubenstein: Right. Su-, the summer's kids are going back to school. Adults are going, young adults are going back to school. Traffic's getting bad.
Larry Hryb: Traffic's getting worse, but more importantly, uh, for gamers, that's when all the good games come out.
Laura Massey: That's true.
Larry Hryb: We're getting into the holiday of gaming. So I just, I was just [inaudible 00:01:41], speaking of gaming, I was over ... I don't know if you noticed Jeff, I was over in Lorry, I was over in Germany. Recently with Gamescom.
Jeff Rubenstein: Wow.
Larry Hryb: Yeah I was over for the big God.
Jeff Rubenstein: The fatherland.
Larry Hryb: Uh, sure. For some. And it was a, it was a beautiful, beautiful time over in Germany. Jeff and I did the show last year, Laura you've never been.
Laura Massey: I've not, I really wanted to [crosstalk 00:01:58]
Larry Hryb: It is a uh, it is an extraordinary show.
Jeff Rubenstein: Did you have schnitzel?
Larry Hryb: I did not.
Jeff Rubenstein: [corivers 00:02:03]
Larry Hryb: Yo, did I ever?
Jeff Rubenstein: Okay I was gonna say, if you, if you whiffed on that one I, I'm gonna doubt you even more.
Larry Hryb: No no, fact to fact, I was, I was [curvesting 00:02:08] my way across uh, at cologne, lovely cologne so, anyway we'll talk about what we're playing now, which frankly that should, that list is gonna be pretty short because we've been pretty busy, I, I don't, I've been in Germany, I've been doing nothing but playing games.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh okay, well then Laura do you want to talk about what you're playing, ladies first?
Laura Massey: Sure, I only have a few games. So, it's been a busy time for me, uh work wise, and personal life wise. Um, but the big game, I've been playing is No Man's sky.
Larry Hryb: Oh yeah.
Laura Massey: Have you guys heard of it ... Just to play it?
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, yeah I have on it.
Larry Hryb: Are you playing it on playsta-, Playstation or P-
Laura Massey: On PC.
Larry Hryb: Okay.
Laura Massey: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Larry Hryb: And.
Laura Massey: And, I actually, I really really enjoyed it. I love exploration games to begin with, and sort of mining games, collecting games like the economy games, I really really love playing. So it scratches that itch for me. It gave you love running around in Dragon Age, or you know Skyrim, collecting all the herbs and you know, mining things,
Larry Hryb: Yeah, yeah.
Laura Massey: crafting in this game is just right up mystery.
Larry Hryb: Good.
Laura Massey: So ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Tell me about your home planet, what was it like? Your first one?
Laura Massey: So, it's funny-
Larry Hryb: Do you get to name planets? I don't know.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh yeah, yeah.
Larry Hryb: Okay, so what did your name planet with?
Laura Massey: I, I haven't named mine.
Larry Hryb: Really?
Laura Massey: It, it starts out as [inaudible 00:03:09] which is a bunch of characters.
Larry Hryb: It's islandic.
Laura Massey: Yes. A whole kind of cramped in together, doesn't actually make [crosstalk 00:03:17]
Larry Hryb: Can you rename it though?
Laura Massey: I hear that you can, I haven't, I haven't named mine.
Jeff Rubenstein: You already have a major nelson planet in the Xbox system.
Larry Hryb: Yes I do baby. Very first one.
Jeff Rubenstein: I don't want a planet, I want the sun.
Larry Hryb: (Laughs)
Jeff Rubenstein: Then you, I'm sorry, you've got sort of a, a highly radioactive planet.
Larry Hryb: Okay.
Jeff Rubenstein: But it's like, it's got a lot of personality.
Larry Hryb: Then like ...
Jeff Rubenstein: It's one charming planet.
Larry Hryb: Don't know what to say to that, anyways.
Laura Massey: Mm-hmm (affirmative). So my first planet was a freezing planet.
Larry Hryb: Oh.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh, I haven't seen one of those.
Laura Massey: You haven't seen one of those? It's not really snowy but you run around and your cold meter keeps going up, so, and then it's really freezing nights and it goes [inaudible 00:03:53].
Larry Hryb: Do you have to sleep?
Jeff Rubenstein: You have to drink hot cocoa. The fallouts.
Larry Hryb: So I, so to be clear I've seen all the videos of the game, I've read some of the reviews, I've not had the chance to play because of traveling, I wanted to download it when I was in Germany but I just, we just didn't have time, was too busy working.
Laura Massey: I think you'd enjoy it Larry.
Larry Hryb: Okay.
Laura Massey: I think it's your, sort of your, your types of games where you're running around exploring, and leveling up and finding things, discovering new thing.
Larry Hryb: Okay, but it's again, you can only, it's a single player.
Jeff Rubenstein: Correct.
Laura Massey: Yes. I believe it's a shared world, but a single player.
Larry Hryb: So can I come to your planet (Mumbles)
Laura Massey: Yeah you can, but I won't be there.
Jeff Rubenstein: Might, might take a while to be there. Yeah she's ...
Larry Hryb: She's already gone.
Jeff Rubenstein: The sign, this is ...
Larry Hryb: I don't blame you Laura, if your first one is cold, I'd get off planet now.
Laura Massey: Get off.
Larry Hryb: And who, I mean, I, I assume if you can rename the planet, of course it's gonna be Hoff?
Laura Massey: Well, It wasn't white. I wish it was, and it would definitely ...
Larry Hryb: Okay.
Jeff Rubenstein: Frozen methane. It's not, not pretty.
Larry Hryb: All right. All right.
Laura Massey: Yeah, it's super fun, I've been able to get out of my star system and started exploring other star systems but I need to put some more time into it.
Larry Hryb: So was it likely dangerous Jeff? Because you've played both.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, I, you know, there's a little bit of that. I think it's a little more, the learning curve is much simpler. Uh, Elite dangerous, it took me like 20, 30 minutes learn how to like dock into the station.
Laura Massey: Oh [inaudible 00:05:03]
Jeff Rubenstein: Here I, I hold down the X button and I, and I, [inaudible 00:05:08]
Larry Hryb: Yeah, elite, elite dangerous is a full on sim.
Laura Massey: It's a sim. It's a space simulator. Which is, it's more of a game, where you get to ...
Larry Hryb: Yeah it's more arcadey.
Laura Massey: [crosstalk 00:05:14] land. Or you know, whether you're playing in, and you just hit a few buttons to go between your warp drive and your local system drive and your impulse drive, instead of having hit all the buttons, like elite dangerous.
Larry Hryb: Okay, there's a lot, there's a lot of that going on.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh yeah, I ... The thing, and tell me if you're run in this. So the first planet, I, I spawned on uh, the planet rubes. Tearing out. Uh, was actually like really lush, and had tons of like, you know, innocuous animals that didn't attack me and had no meter that was like ticking down.
Laura Massey: Oh nice.
Jeff Rubenstein: I was just sunbathing for a few hours, the first few hours.
Larry Hryb: Wow.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh, then I ran out, I ran out of lemons for lemonade and I had to leave the planet but uh, I was mining something called like emerald. You know, bam? I don't know. And uh, but like which turns, it's worth like a ton so I just like immediately had ...
Laura Massey: Used [inaudible 00:05:59] with emerald?
Jeff Rubenstein: A million credits. Not only, and like, mountains of it, literal mountains of it.
Laura Massey: Wow.
Larry Hryb: Wow, so why didn't you name it emerald planet?
Jeff Rubenstein: Well, because I've already named it rubes before I realized ...
Larry Hryb: Or us.
Jeff Rubenstein: That there was a nor land's based uh, chef, uh, you know, had already laid down his wares on my planet so, um, very, I think that helped a lot. And actually I've friend in other mountains of emerald, it's really just, it's inventory that's been the um.
Laura Massey: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: The constraining factor it.
Laura Massey: That is, yeah, we have only limited amount of slots in your suit and then in your ship.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yep, and I've upgraded my multi pool, multi tool.
Laura Massey: Very good.
Jeff Rubenstein: Thingy.
Larry Hryb: So you're having a good time with it?
Laura Massey: Yes, [inaudible 00:06:34] having fun.
Larry Hryb: That's great, that's great. What else you're playing? You said you're playing a few games, is that really the big one?
Laura Massey: I think that's the big one.
Larry Hryb: Okay.
Laura Massey: I've been playing ...
Larry Hryb: So are you gonna stick with it or, I mean, I know this, I know this is a procedural game so there's not really an ending per se. But are you gonna, do you feel like you're gonna continue to explore? let me ask you.
Laura Massey: I think it's pretty fun, at least i can get out of, you know, my local star systems, my local galaxy and be able to explore. At least atlas and further.
Larry Hryb: All right.
Laura Massey: We'll see.
Larry Hryb: Jeffry.
Jeff Rubenstein: So yeah, playing that, uh, also jumped into uh, this weekend, and, and a few days earlier, the Titanfall 2 uh technical test.
Larry Hryb: Which I've done as well.
Jeff Rubenstein: So what do you think?
Laura Massey: Ooh.
Larry Hryb: Uh, I, I only played three or four games and I just realized how rusty my titan skills are.
Jeff Rubenstein: It did take me a little while, especially in the titans, I've actually, I think had more success as a, as a pilot, but the pilots uh, you can really stream to get some awesome traversal. And so that's been my favorite part, as if, you know, and I, this is only, it's a tech, not a test, I think they said it's not even a beta yet.
Laura Massey: Yeah, what is a technical test for those of us who didn't play?
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh, it's, so, there was a uh, there were two maps you can play on and you can play a new mode, uh, which I think was called Bank.
Larry Hryb: Right.
Jeff Rubenstein: Or something like that. And, and you, uh, the way this writes, it's a very stressful game mode. So, everything that you're doing, whether you're attacking a targeted uh, bounty, uh computer controlled titan, or you're uh, you know, killing other pilots, or raking in the specters of the other computer controlled drones, uh, you're getting money. The thing is that money is worthless until you deposited it into the bank, which looks like a spider.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: I don't know if that's sort of a, a, some sort, social commentary or something like that.
Larry Hryb: And the way it works, there's a couple on the map, and they only open for specific moments, so obviously you know ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Like a real bank.
Larry Hryb: When the bank's open.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's mostly a bank holiday.
Laura Massey: Exactly.
Jeff Rubenstein: Five oh one, they are closed.
Laura Massey: They are closed, lock the door.
Larry Hryb: When the bank's open, they, then everyone's rushing these points, so if you really want to get aggressive, I mean, at least my understanding was it wasn't like there was one side's bank and the other side's bank just two banks, whatever one you're closest to.
Jeff Rubenstein: Exactly, but every, every time you get killed, your money is halved.
Laura Massey: Mm.
Jeff Rubenstein: And some of that money I think goes over to whoever uh, whoever you know, got your ...
Larry Hryb: The FDIC.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, it's, (Laughter) the IRS comes for you exactly. So um, when you did the FDIC, I wonder, I wonder if FDIC burn card. It's sort of a.
Larry Hryb: There were no burnt cards either.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh yeah, so I ... How much of this is, is representative of the final game I don't know, but what I do know is that the basics of the game feel good and I really loved the um, the grappling hook, cause when you string the other grappling hook, and your jet pack, and your wall runs, it made the wall runs a little bit easier to pull off. You can just go and go and go and go.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: So, I'm curious to see you know other maps, somewhere placed more closed in maps, these were kinda wide open. If you were caught out by uh, a titan then, uh, as a pilot you, you were gone.
Larry Hryb: But fear not, if you missed it this week, and apparently they're gonna have it at this coming weekend as well. I don't know if it's a different build, or if they're gonna update, or what they're gonna do. But we'll have to, you know, follow Titanfall on twitter and those guys over there to let you know, once I find out, I'll let you know.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yep. Definitely uh, definitely worth playing.
Larry Hryb: Titanfall
Jeff Rubenstein: The other game I'm playing.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: Gotta hold of, out this week, Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
Larry Hryb: That's right.
Laura Massey: Ooh.
Larry Hryb: This is highly anticipated.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yes. And I would say, the reason why it's probably so highly anticipated because it's, Human Revolution uh, which actually was a game with gold, not that long ago, is an awesome game. And if you've played that, even if you uh, had normally picked it up recently, it's part of the games with gold uh promotion. Um, and if you liked it, then you'll like this. That would be my simplest review if you, if you liked the last one, you will like this one. It's, um, it's ...
Larry Hryb: I finished the last one, I had a lot of fun with it. And this one I just, a problem was is, I, I got it early access to it as well. I started playing it when I returned from uh ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Bless you.
Laura Massey: Thank you.
Larry Hryb: When I returned from Germany.
Jeff Rubenstein: Master of German.
Larry Hryb: Uh, (Laughs)
Jeff Rubenstein: They've really rubbed off on you.
Larry Hryb: And um, and I was just, I was playing it when I was like at 2'o clock in the morning and I was, I was jet lagged, I didn't know what was going on, I shouldn't have had the controller in my hand Jeffry.
Jeff Rubenstein: Bit of a, bit of a learning curve. It took me, uh it took me about an hour to get back into it. Fortunately uh, for those who played the first one, who forgot all of the nuances of, uh the story which was pretty uh, labyrinthian if you will. Um, there's like a 12 minute video which I highly recommend you watch that sort of gets you back up to speed. Um.
Larry Hryb: Previously on deus ex.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's essentially just like that, and then the Mission Impossible theme. Uh, the thing I liked about the game it, best skill tree in gaming.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, I haven't, I haven't really started. I just started, I'm only about 40 minutes in, so I haven't really checked that out. I just ... The helicopter just showed up.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, oh, oh yeah. You're very ...
Larry Hryb: So you know I just ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah yeah, you're about to get into the proper game.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: Um, and the, you know, they keep you, they keep giving you the praxis points, which was like essentially these praxis kits allow you to you know, upgrade your skill tree, your bionics and there's just like every point I get, I sit there and I agonize over where I'm going to put it. Because of like, "Do I want to jump like ten feet in the air? Or do I want to be able to turn invisible? Or do I want to be able to like, see through walls? Or do I wanna have a sword come out of my arm?" Like, the answer to all of those is of course yes. Um.
Laura Massey: Just in what order?
Jeff Rubenstein: But what, and that. And I sit there, and I just like, (Grunts), chewed over it, and then I eventually make, and then I put it into hacking because that what's I always do. I'm a hacker. Hacker like, you wouldn't know it.
Larry Hryb: Hack and slash?
Jeff Rubenstein: I do it, no no I mean, like computer hacking.
Laura Massey: Oh, computer hacking.
Jeff Rubenstein: I do what I, I do what you could do in real life, that I could not. Which is like know something about computers. So I put all into that.
Larry Hryb: Jeff is the original script kiddie.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yes. That is something you get actually, when you, when you uh ...
Larry Hryb: That's right.
Jeff Rubenstein: When you get the [inaudible 00:11:55] I was one of those, what'd they call, freakers?
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: Where they would make the noises of the telephone.
Larry Hryb: And I've seen that, now I've got, you know I have stories.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh. I bet you do.
Larry Hryb: You know, you know I have stories. And we're not. We're, unfortunately, we're not gonna tell them here.
Jeff Rubenstein: What's the statue of libertation on that.
Larry Hryb: We can't, I really prefer not to.
Jeff Rubenstein: As you see is listening.
Larry Hryb: I'd prefer not to go in that, I will just say that uh, I did not uh, I did not have anything to do with that. So.
Jeff Rubenstein: Speaking of the FCC.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: Ish. It's a, it's a real stretch for a [seg 00:12:20] way. Can I talk about my grandma?
Laura Massey: (Laughs) What?
Larry Hryb: Uh. Now you must because Laura and I are sitting over here with a quizzical look trying to ...
Laura Massey: Question mark.
Larry Hryb: I'm sorry, was she, was she a chairman of the FCC? Was she on the board?
Jeff Rubenstein: She predates the, well actually I think it was the telecommunications act of like, 1934 and she was uh, she probably had her first job by the time that, that one came out. Um, she, she's 93. 93 years young.
Larry Hryb: So, so the FCC was founded in 1934.
Jeff Rubenstein: Is that what it was? And I remembered there was some big, I don't remember.
Larry Hryb: June 19, 1934 according to Wikipedia.
Jeff Rubenstein: Okay, well, she was uh, yes she had her first job, it was depression.
Larry Hryb: Anywho.
Jeff Rubenstein: Anyway, stolen apples.
Larry Hryb: So your grandmother.
Jeff Rubenstein: So my grandma. Uh, she's like, "Jeffry, have you ever seen this cake shell?"
Larry Hryb: (Laughter)
Jeff Rubenstein: And so, immediately I know where's she going with this.
Larry Hryb: Really?
Jeff Rubenstein: Yes, and uh, I was right, I hadn't told you this. And, and I'm like.
Larry Hryb: Wait a minute, so she doesn't know? Okay go ahead.
Jeff Rubenstein: No no, she goes, I'm like, "Cake wars by chance?" She's like, "Yes that's the one. Do you? I was watching and there was someone from Microsoft." Oh I'm really like overdoing the voice of that. (Laughter)
Laura Massey: Oh my God.
Jeff Rubenstein: And, and I'm like, "Was his name Larry?" "Yes. Do you know him?" (Laughter) And, and, "Ye-, yes grandma, and he's actually the one that hired me at, at Microsoft." "Oh, that should have been you judging the cakes."
Larry Hryb: (Laughter) So apparently I didn't do a good job.
Jeff Rubenstein: I was like, "What, I think Larry's better at this," And she's like, "Uh huh. Uh," and then she's like, "What was that game, Kado? Kado." I'm like,"Uh, Ha-, Halo, Halo grandma." She's like, "Is that successful?" And I'm like, "It's sold millions and millions of copies."
Larry Hryb: It's done okay for itself.
Jeff Rubenstein: "I never heard of it." I'm like, "I don't know that you're the target market grandma."
Larry Hryb: Therefore she dismissed it.
Jeff Rubenstein: Then, then at that point she was just like, "What did they do with all of those cakes?"
Larry Hryb: Oh really?
Jeff Rubenstein: And I said Larry mostly.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, we, I, I kinda, looked at, [inaudible 00:14:18] told her to look in my ways, clearly I ate most of them.
Jeff Rubenstein: She, she was very, she was very impressed that I knew you.
Larry Hryb: Right.
Jeff Rubenstein: Who was uh, and then, and then that, about, well my mom is on it, cause some, you know, she comes over to my ...
Larry Hryb: Was it a party home? Was it old school party?
Jeff Rubenstein: It was, kind off.
Larry Hryb: Was it a toll call?
Jeff Rubenstein: It was ... (laughter) They paid the MCI. The owner of rotary [thought 00:14:37] Um, and then, and then that's when my mom realized what's going on. She goes, "Is this about captain Morgan?"
Larry Hryb: Oh boy, here we go.
Jeff Rubenstein: Which ...
Larry Hryb: Which your mother likes to call me.
Jeff Rubenstein: Which she likes to call you.
Larry Hryb: With whom I've never met, I've never met your mother, I've never met your grandmother, we need to go down to Miami so I can, I can meet them.
Jeff Rubenstein: We, we were talking about this for a while.
Larry Hryb: Yeah I know, we have. We need to go down at the, the Miami.
Larry Hryb: Microsoft's store.
Jeff Rubenstein: Microsoft store and they would, oh believe me.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: Cause my mom and my grandma, "I have to meet this [crosstalk 00:15:01]"
Larry Hryb: I would, you know I would love to meet, I would like to take them out to dinner.
Jeff Rubenstein: All right. You ...
Larry Hryb: Okay?
Jeff Rubenstein: You better be careful what you asked for.
Larry Hryb: Is there, is there a good deli down there?
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, you know what they like?
Larry Hryb: What?
Jeff Rubenstein: This is the height of ...
Larry Hryb: Here we go.
Jeff Rubenstein: A good wine.
Larry Hryb: Sorry about this Laura.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's, it's, it's the capital grill. That would impress.
Larry Hryb: Oh really? Is that, is that fancy?
Jeff Rubenstein: That's uh, that is, that's way up there for them.
Larry Hryb: Okay good.
Jeff Rubenstein: Cause all of their favorite places went out. Like [Wolfies 00:15:21], stallie and what not in the 80s.
Larry Hryb: Oh boy, okay, well thank you for that story Jeffry.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, I was just, my, my wife is just losing it the entire time.
Larry Hryb: (Laughter time)
Jeff Rubenstein: What's that game, Kado?
Larry Hryb: Oh you can't write this, this is true, true story folks, true story.
Jeff Rubenstein: 93 years yeah.
Larry Hryb: So speaking of true stories. I'm sorry, so you're done with [inaudible 00:15:41]
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh that's it, that's all I got.
Larry Hryb: Because I guess it's what I'm playing and really as I was playing the airport game as well as uh, as Gamescom and then I'm still playing a little bit of Overwatch, but I need to get back into it, now is the time to get back into some games and Deus Ex. So there we go.
Laura Massey: And more is coming.
Larry Hryb: Yes it is Laura, yes it is. In fact, uh Jeffry, if you could, if you could call it up here, we're gonna ... if you're coming into town for Pax and Laura, you won't be in town for Pax?
Laura Massey: No, I won't.
Larry Hryb: But we'll be having a uh, we're gonna be having an ID at Xbox open house, we've done it for many years. We, we opened up the doors on campus. We invite people in to play lots of games and I don't know how many games we're gonna out here, but we're, I've got a blog post up on that, let's make sure we're linked to that shall we?
Jeff Rubenstein: Will do.
Larry Hryb: So ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, dozens upon dozens, it's, it's usually granted, and really it's uh, it's a good opportunity to seek campus.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: Um, If you ever wondered where ...
Larry Hryb: I get asked a lot and I'm sure you do Laura and Jeff, you know, "Hey i'm coming to town, can I get a tour?" You know, due the, due the privacy and security we, we don't allow tours on Microsoft campus, no public tours.
Laura Massey: Right.
Larry Hryb: Um, but you know,
Laura Massey: But there is a visitor center?
Larry Hryb: There is a visitor center.
Jeff Rubenstein: Which is actually pretty cool.
Larry Hryb: Which is pretty cool, and actually used to be about seventy five feet from our desk right Jeff?
Jeff Rubenstein: That's correct.
Larry Hryb: But now unfortunately we moved.
Jeff Rubenstein: And it's above the area where they, they did the Hololens ...
Laura Massey: That's right.
Jeff Rubenstein: For the [inaudible 00:16:47] which I had no idea when we were seventy five feet away, what was going on.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: The cool thing if you do come out and do this, they, they will show off. You'll see a lot of like devices up, and all the Xbox there and we'll have like service, and other things you can kind of see. But then they have like a few like experimental things. And they have something that uh, when you go up to there's, it's like a big TV with a camera on the top and it will detect expressions. And so you can make like different faces and it'll be like, "Try and make like an angry face." Or a happy face, or a surprised face.
Laura Massey: Will it [crosstalk 00:17:16]
Jeff Rubenstein: And it will like freeze frame it if you do it. And, so it's pretty, it's a fun thing to do. Highly recommended.
Larry Hryb: Will it pick up my puzzled face?
Jeff Rubenstein: That might be one of quizzical.
Larry Hryb: My judging face?
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh.
Laura Massey: Yeah letting [inaudible 00:17:30]
Jeff Rubenstein: That's a setting that sincere,
Larry Hryb: Hey, hey.
Jeff Rubenstein: The rest in judgement face.
Laura Massey: [inaudible 00:18:00]
Larry Hryb: Oh I see yes, which apparently I didn't do very well on. Jeffry could have done better according to his grandmother. But you know what, I respect that. I respect that, because every grandmother has to say that.
Jeff Rubenstein: She, that's her, she's, deep, deep in the heart of heart, she knows that you, you did the right thing.
Larry Hryb: That's okay.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh, just a couple of games I want to call out.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: That are going to be at this um, pre Pax open house.
Larry Hryb: And we hope you'll join us, it's open to the public, no tickets required.
Jeff Rubenstein: So Axiom Verge, which is coming in Xbox one, that's gonna be there which is very cool, I've played it on uh, played it on PC, Cuphead.
Larry Hryb: Ah, the infamous Cuphead.
Jeff Rubenstein: Everspace, which looks beautiful, another, another space game that we have at, at Pax this year. Uh, Pit People, from the behemoth.
Larry Hryb: Oh yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: Which is a very very cool strategy rpg with amazing voiceover.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh let's see, Slam Rancher, which actually, that just came out. Sniper Elite 4. And, uh, oh the Jackbox party pack three. I didn't realize that ...
Larry Hryb: You know I've been playing that right?
Jeff Rubenstein: No. It's so good.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, you've noticed I've been playing it you know, last uh, we haven't talked about it since then, but since the last show, we've bought a company called Beam, beam.pro. Which is a streaming service Microsoft has purchased and I've had the chance to interview the CEO, um who I think was 19 years old. Yeah, that's, that's that's humbling, that's a whole lot of conversation. He was actually not old enough to drink. Um, and he, what's interesting is, I've been streaming on Beam, and I've been playing that game, cause it's only like, less than 2 millisecond lag, and playing those jackbox games. Have you ever played them Laura?
Laura Massey: No.
Larry Hryb: Oh, they're a ton of fun.
Laura Massey: I've not played [inaudible 00:19:00]
Larry Hryb: It's the great equalizer for like a party game, because if, like sometimes if you have a lot of folks over, some people are hardcore gamers, and some people never played and so it's, it's not all that fun. Um, everyone uses their own phone, doesn't matter what brand of phone they've got, it brings up a browser and there's drawing games, and there's sort of bluffing games and everyone's on equal, equal footing. It's really an amazing party.
Jeff Rubenstein: So this is a um, so I've been streaming that on beam, I'm gonna do a little more of that.
Laura Massey: Oh fun.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, so I just, you know, you know that's, as as, any long time listener, of course you guys noticed I'm a good friend with you is, I'm a frustrated game show host.
Laura Massey: (Laughs)
Larry Hryb: So, and so, I, that's my output as its worst. Anyway, so uh, so a lot of good games at ID at Xbox, and I'm looking forward to seeing that. I'll be there, Jeff will be there.
Jeff Rubenstein: Absolutely.
Larry Hryb: You'll be back Laura, won't be back here up then. But uh, we're definitely gonna uh, we're definitely gonna be there so hopefully you can come over, open, open to everybody. Come one, come all.
Jeff Rubenstein: Details, in the show note.
Larry Hryb: Details in the infamous show note. So I got to tell a funny story as you know, in the previous shows, I told the story of you know, at EA when I was at the EA event at E3 with Snoop Dogg, remember that conversation?
Laura Massey: Yes.
Larry Hryb: Apparently, apparently somebody over on Reddit.
Laura Massey: Just snoop dogg I remembered.
Larry Hryb: He's going, he's going yeah it's true, he's going through all these old shows and they're putting up these things off the stories that I've told like they, there was a whole thread about uh, a thread about this, and there was another thread about um, the, the the old, older woman who recognized my button. So I was called the pope of Xbox. I don't know, I don't know what's going on, but thank you for listening to the shows. Um, yeah, so I was just very strange but up there. But we've got a lot of, a lot of news going on here. Of course, recently, um, we've got uh, the Xbox ones has been on sales, selling out like crazy, the Madden One is now on sale. Um, it's, it's been kind of crazy hasn't it?
Jeff Rubenstein: All right. You know what I'm doing when I ... So I'm going on vacation.
Larry Hryb: Yes you are.
Jeff Rubenstein: And, so um, my, I go on vacation with this other family and when we, when we do that, uh, usually we'll, when the kids go to sleep, then we'd play Xbox, me and my buddy Connor, we've been playing for years. And so, he bought his Xbox One S and I've been busy and I haven't had the chance to, and so he's bringing his and we're gonna play through uh Gears 3. He want, we're gonna play that.
Larry Hryb: Sure. That's what the game is for.
Jeff Rubenstein: Exactly.
Larry Hryb: Sure.
Jeff Rubenstein: And uh, and I went this weekend to try and trade in my old Xbox uh One, 500gig for, for a new one, for an S, and they were sold out. So I'm, I'm bringing it to Hawaii. So hoping I'm gonna do what all people do in Hawaii. Go to Gamestop.
Larry Hryb: Well, it's important to point out is that, it's really critical that you do that, because you, like me, and frankly a little bit like Laura. If you're in the sun, you will get burned after 15 minutes.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah it's true. And what are you, what are you gonna do at night? You know, I'll, I'll do the hiking, and whatever people do outside. Hiking, does that sound right? It doesn't feel right.
Larry Hryb: Not coming out of your mouth.
Jeff Rubenstein: No. No. Uh, I'm sure I'll be drinking when I'm tired or something and then coming back and playing Gears of War 3. That's a vacation.
Larry Hryb: Anyway, uh, so that's available, Gamescom, we'll just talk a little about game- I've gotta tell you a funny story about Gamescom, I've been dying to tell you this story Laura. You, this is, so Jeff and I had a running joke. You know, we have had gramp on the show in the past. We loved gramp, he's always welcome in the show and I've got to work with him over there. But the running joke when we sent him email, just infrequently, cause we're always communicating back and forth is that we always get at an out of office, you know reply that says, he's on holiday, he's on his annual leave.
Jeff Rubenstein: Annual leave.
Larry Hryb: So I told him this, and he's like, "Well I guess I am on a lot." So I'm telling, we're getting ready to shoot it and we're on the show for, we're just talking while the crew is setting up, and this gentlemen comes over, he says, "Hey gramp, I'm a big fan. I've emailed you a couple times. And I wanna thank you for all you've done." It's going on and on he says. "But I never got an email back from you because I've emailed you once and it said you were on vacation." It was like, as if on cue and it was perfect. But I've been meaning to tell you that story.
Jeff Rubenstein: Well you just spoiled my out of office for the next week.
Larry Hryb: So it's, it was just really an amusing that uh ... But it was good to see gramp. Great time over there, wonderful fan fest, we had a couple few hundred fans that uh, had a great time, the show itself is just, you know Jeff you've been talking about [inaudible 00:22:50] it's, it's kind of hard to describe, it's way bigger than E3 in terms of scale and scope and attendance and it was just, I love going to [inaudible 00:22:58] it's a wonderful city.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh yeah, always just uh, great. Cause you have such like, ancient old Gothic you know, structures.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: But then. You know, you have all these games and great food out. We always have such a good time there. Did you get, where you're cornered in an alley this time?
Larry Hryb: I was. It happened.
Laura Massey: What? what?
Larry Hryb: So, this, so Laura the funny thing is you know I, I have the, I have probably what I consider one of the greatest jobs ever which is working with the Xbox team, we're working with all these smart men and women who worked on the stuff here. And, I just happened to be you know, got the weekly show this week on Xbox and, always someone, usually someone will recognize me when I'm on public, which is fine, I love talking to people, big better fans. And, Jeff and I were together last year and it was probably eleven o' clock at night, we're going back to the hotel after an event and were were walking down at a dark alley. Do you remember and what did they say, what was the conversation Jeff? I'll let you.
Jeff Rubenstein: No, they, they were, they were just, uh, a group of uh, of youths, also walking alongside behind us. And you know ...
Larry Hryb: We're getting nervous.
Jeff Rubenstein: I wouldn't, uh you know, nervous is a strong word, but you know, we both grew up in the, in the northeast.
Laura Massey: [crosstalk 00:23:59] foreign country.
Jeff Rubenstein: You know? And we're just like, you know.
Larry Hryb: We're watching our back.
Jeff Rubenstein: We're wary.
Larry Hryb: It's not only that, but maybe and I don't wanna speak for you Jeff but I mean, I was a nerd in school, like I'm, on school I got beat up quite a bit. So ...
Jeff Rubenstein: So you kind of have the feeling.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, oh yeah, I know, I'm like, okay they're gonna jump us.
Jeff Rubenstein: I mean, in the neighborhood I grew up, and ...
Larry Hryb: Yeah, but that's different.
Jeff Rubenstein: You crossed the street if there was someone you didn't know, and they were talking down the street toward-, anyway.
Larry Hryb: Anyway, it wasn't any of that.
Jeff Rubenstein: So, it wasn't like, and all of a sudden they, oh my, they're coming over.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, here we go.
Jeff Rubenstein: And it was like, and then they were like, "Are you major nelson?"
Larry Hryb: Yeah, yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: You know? And then it ended turning into a whole, it was completely unfounded.
Larry Hryb: But it, but it happened this time, I was, I was on my way uh, I was walking back from the dump down that major street there.
Jeff Rubenstein: You were at that retail stuff?
Larry Hryb: Yes, I think that was the block near that snicker store you like.
Jeff Rubenstein: Right, I missed that.
Larry Hryb: And, the same exact thing somebody came up to me and they, they wanted a photo, which is fine, I mean I love meeting fans wherever we go. So it's the answer to your question is yes.
Laura Massey: Yeah, well I'm surprised they're able to recognize you from behind.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, I am too, because nobody ever-
Jeff Rubenstein: You're probably talking and you know, when me and you were talking ...
Larry Hryb: I was by myself.
Jeff Rubenstein: You just said, good evening Jeffry, I'm on Xbox live, Major Nelson.
Larry Hryb: And actually is as I'm walking I do narrate the entire and then we have the dom cathedral which is over five hundred ...
Jeff Rubenstein: We're not streaming right now.
Larry Hryb: It's always on, but uh, yeah, so Gamescom was a lot of fun, we, we showed off some great games there and as I said we're a great fan of it, it's a lovely lovely city, one of my favorite cities as Jeff said it's just beautiful when we're always, have a great uh, well those are great time, [inaudible 00:25:24] miss this here, Jeff. Laura, I'd love to be over there with you sometime I think, I think you would enjoy it and uh, next year we'll go back. So anyway. Games.
Jeff Rubenstein: Did, did you get to play anything?
Larry Hryb: Yeah, I played gears. Uh, as always which is fun, Halo Wars 2 which looked phenomenal, uh, ReCore, played some RecorE, got to play as the Titan, we had Titanfall there. It was a different build than the tech test. Um, so did that course Sea of Thieves?
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, Sea of Thieves won some awards.
Larry Hryb: So apparently I was playing it when we were streaming and I didn't realize we were streaming and I, I got, I grabbed my, my mug of ale and went out on the top of front of the ship and started swinging around and then I was firing cannons of gram, and it was, it was, I didn't, I was just completely scre-, I was that guy in the game I was completely screwing around. And didn't realize that we were streaming so. If you saw that, yeah, congratulations.
Laura Massey: (Laughs)
Larry Hryb: Anywho. So uh, do we have any other news? Because otherwise we're gonna do name the games since it's been drifting.
Jeff Rubenstein: Why don't we hop in it now?
Larry Hryb: It's been hanging over our head like uh, like a smoke, smoke in the bar.
Laura Massey: I've gotten lots of emails.
Larry Hryb: You have?
Laura Massey: Questioning, "Hey have you paid off, name the game from last time?" And I'm like, "No? I haven't on the show." and we haven't had a show in a while.
Larry Hryb: Right, so we haven't had a show in a while.
Laura Massey: So, just paid that off.
Larry Hryb: All right, so there we go. So Laura, you're ready for name the game?
Laura Massey: Yeah, let's play the sound clip from last time. So that was the name the game from a long time ago.
Larry Hryb: Last month.
Laura Massey: July, July 29th.
Larry Hryb: I think so, yeah, roughly yeah I think that show.
Laura Massey: And it was, hyper light drifting.
Larry Hryb: That, you loved that game.
Jeff Rubenstein: Such a good game.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: If you haven't played it, sort of a, Zeldaesque, like the original Zelda, drop in, doesn't tell you what to do, you go out there and you just figure it out.
Laura Massey: Oh very good. Okay, and we have a winner.
Larry Hryb: Yeah we do.
Laura Massey: We do. His gamer tag is achilles337.
Larry Hryb: Achilles337.
Laura Massey: Congratulations.
Larry Hryb: Congratulations.
Laura Massey: Looks like he's from Louisiana.
Larry Hryb: Louisiana.
Laura Massey: All right, down from the south.
Larry Hryb: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Laura Massey: Okay. Achilles, you're wondering probably what you've won.
Larry Hryb: Oh boy, I saw the list over there and I was like, "Holy cow, look at this."
Laura Massey: Some great games here.
Larry Hryb: Why don't you, why don't you take it off?
Laura Massey: All right. The prizes are a copy of madden NFL 17.
Larry Hryb: Yay, from Louisiana you're gonna love the ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Saints?
Larry Hryb: There you go.
Laura Massey: Very good. You also get a Xbox live prepaid, one month EA access membership.
Larry Hryb: So we'll take care of you so you can go any EA and eat all those as much as you want for a month, have fun. play like crazy.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's a lot of stuff in the vault right now.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: SSX?
Larry Hryb: Play like nobody cares. Isn't that the quote?
Laura Massey: (Laughter) that's not all.
Jeff Rubenstein: Play like, dance like nobody's watching.
Laura Massey: No, so that's not all? That only it.
Larry Hryb: No that ooh, that's not all, keep going.
Laura Massey: And you do get access to EA access to play what you want.
Larry Hryb: All the stuff in the vault.
Laura Massey: Is Achilles watching?
Larry Hryb: Yes. As if no one's watching. (Laughter) That sounds bad.
Laura Massey: It does. You also get a copy of a note, overcooked. And Deus Ex Mankind Divided.
Larry Hryb: Deus ex mankind, that's right.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh, so good. So you'll be, that's it, that's a pretty good prize.
Larry Hryb: That's a great prize [inaudible 00:28:39] congratulations.
Laura Massey: There's so many games.
Larry Hryb: And it's your, it's your uh, you've done very well there for yourself, and how do you win? Well it's really easy, we play a game clip here from an Xbox 3, uh Xbox 360 or Xbox 1 game, has to be 360 back and pack, let's focus in a little bit shall we?
Laura Massey: Oh wow we'll focus it in.
Larry Hryb: Okay, let's try a little, let's kind of tongue at them.
Laura Massey: Narrowed that down.
Jeff Rubenstein: Didn't narrow down that much, it was, there was a bunch of games.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, there's a lot of it so, so could be something from there uh and, and you just listen to the clip that we're gonna play in a moment, you'll email us. It's that simple then all we take all the, correct answers put them in a digital hat and pull them out and then you could be like uh ...
Laura Massey: Achilles.
Larry Hryb: Achilles337.
Laura Massey: And exactly and win fabulous, fabulous prizes.
Larry Hryb: They are fabulous aren't they?
Laura Massey: They are.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Laura Massey: I wish I'd won those prizes.
Larry Hryb: No, you don't even have to win ...
Laura Massey: [inaudible 00:29:18].
Larry Hryb: Can, can't win.
Laura Massey: Also kind of run the contest.
Larry Hryb: Yeah that's true so.
Laura Massey: That'd be cheating.
Larry Hryb: You already won. Just being here, you know, people, people would want to win the spot on. Do you know how often people want to be on the show like we'd walk around and and, you know, employees, "Hey, can I join this?" No, it doesn't work that way. Doesn't work that way so. Anyway, so you ...
Laura Massey: Let's name the game.
Larry Hryb: Let's name the game, you have a new one?
Laura Massey: I do, let's roll the tape. Alright, so that was name the game for this week, like Larry said, if you think you know what game those sounds is from, all you have to do is email us and you know, tell us what game that is.
Larry Hryb: Yep.
Laura Massey: You can include your gamer tag if you want to and where are you from.
Larry Hryb: Yep.
Laura Massey: And if you don't, that's totally fine as well.
Larry Hryb: If you can hear our voices, you can participate, Laura why don't you give up those email addresses?
Laura Massey: Exactly. Email is at lolipopxbox.com and majoratxbox.com
Larry Hryb: That's me.
Laura Massey: That is you.
Larry Hryb: Yeah majoratxbox.com lolipopatxbox.com. So that's how you find us, congratulations to uh, Achilles 337 and you, you, fellow listener could be, someone listening right now is the next winner, so what are you waiting for? The prizes are there for you, take them.
Laura Massey: Exactly, just send us an email. Very easy.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Laura Massey: Good luck.
Jeff Rubenstein: You really want it, you've got a lot of stuff to give, you're, you're sitting on a pile of games right now.
Larry Hryb: I've got so much cool stuff to give away cause you never what you're gonna win, that's the beautiful part of, but it's gonna be usually something as good as that prize package or perhaps even better. Thank you Laura, than you for that. So, all right, so we're moving along here, we're gonna wrap up the show shortly cause everybody is so busy this time of the year, we're getting ready, do you have any uh, any final things you want to go for Jeffry? New gadgets, you'd want to talk about any cool stuff we're working on?
Jeff Rubenstein: No, I, I'm starting to look at some TVs.
Larry Hryb: Oh have you? Is it HDR time?
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh, yeah we're getting there. Now I'm just seeing, you know, what people are saying that are playing games in 4K, I've been hearing some good stuff.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Jeff Rubenstein: Uh, I'm starting to uh, look around.
Larry Hryb: Trying to get an edge.
Jeff Rubenstein: Some good stuff out there.
Larry Hryb: There's great deals out there, Laura, what about you? You're [inaudible 00:31:16] for a new TV?
Laura Massey: I'm not, but i'm curious what a quantum dot display is.
Larry Hryb: Uh, well that has four dots.
Laura Massey: Quantum?
Jeff Rubenstein: Quan, I wouldn't say quantum is ...
Larry Hryb: I don't know what that means, I don't know what that means.
Jeff Rubenstein: Actually that was one of the ones I was looking at.
Larry Hryb: So, so Laura was looking at the TV we have here in the studio which actually that TV is being replaced because it came in defective so we don't want ... Yeah, so we gotta replace that one. Yeah, so new TV.
Jeff Rubenstein: Not yet though.
Larry Hryb: Not yet.
Jeff Rubenstein: Just thinking about it.
Laura Massey: Maybe you're looking for quantum dot.
Jeff Rubenstein: And I've had my ...
Laura Massey: Because that sounds pretty sweet.
Jeff Rubenstein: I know, I'm gonna be like, "Look, what kind of dots do you have here?"
Larry Hryb: Mm, we've got quantum dots.
Jeff Rubenstein: Standard?
Laura Massey: No.
Larry Hryb: No.
Jeff Rubenstein: Quantum only.
Larry Hryb: I need better pixels please.
Jeff Rubenstein: Whatever that means, yes.
Larry Hryb: Uh, at, at home I uh, I got a uh, the new um, Nvidia 1080 graphics card.
Laura Massey: You did?
Larry Hryb: Yeah, I put that in my um, my Razer core.
Laura Massey: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Larry Hryb: Cause that's what you do.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah. That's what you do.
Larry Hryb: Running with stealth, so I've got that, so now I just need to download my uh ...
Laura Massey: No man's sky.
Larry Hryb: My no man's sky.
Laura Massey: Oh that will look good in that.
Larry Hryb: Get my no man's sky on.
Laura Massey: Yeah, have you?
Larry Hryb: No go on.
Laura Massey: Have you run anything on it yet?
Larry Hryb: No I just installed it yesterday, and that, I've got that is my laptop, and then I've got my full on gaming PC which has the twin titans.
Laura Massey: Mm-hmm (affirmative).
Larry Hryb: So I have a ridiculous amount of GPU in my house.
Jeff Rubenstein: The am- the amount of like awesome laptops coming out now with the um, the pascal.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Jeff Rubenstein: In video chips, like the 1070 mobile.
Larry Hryb: You know I used you know ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Is better than the 1080 desktop from a year ago. Or the 980, that's just crazy.
Larry Hryb: So pascal, are you familiar with the pascal?
Jeff Rubenstein: It's like an old, com [inaudible 00:32:37]
Larry Hryb: Yeah i used, I used to program in that.
Laura Massey: Yes. [inaudible 00:32:39] Program in english? Or the ...
Larry Hryb: Yeah, I've programmed in that language. Have you? Back in the day.
Laura Massey: I've maybe programmed one program in it.
Larry Hryb: You don't need to do it.
Jeff Rubenstein: In kindergarten?
Larry Hryb: You really just, that was, it was just ... "This is how they used to do it."
Jeff Rubenstein: First, put in your vacuum tubes.
Larry Hryb: Exactly, and then you spin this thing five revolutions and then the light will come out ... Yeah, don't get me going, pascal.
Jeff Rubenstein: Do you have any punch cards hanging around?
Larry Hryb: Uh, yes, yes my [inaudible 00:33:04] 8080 I don't remember what it was, but it was at switches, and I don't want to get going. I would just date myself.
Jeff Rubenstein: Cure your van noyment machine?
Larry Hryb: Exactly. Boy. All right, so yes, I've got that. Um, working on that. And it's uh, it's, it's pretty cool. Um, but I do need it, to your point Laura, I need to load some games on that.
Laura Massey: Yeah, give it a try, then report back.
Larry Hryb: It's, it's ... I will, I will you know I've got lot of cool gadgets that I'm working on that uh, I'm reviewing in terms of what I talked about on the show you, the 1080 just looks spectacular. The, the razer, the razer core though, for those who don't know is, is extraordinary. Have you had any chance to use one yet?
Jeff Rubenstein: No.
Larry Hryb: It's really, it's really kind of cool um, whereas you can get this lightweight. I've got the stealth which is a lightweight computer, it's like a macbook air kind of thingy [inaudible 00:33:47] and then you plugged it in and all of a sudden it's like, (Grunt) I'm a beast.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh, so it's like a dog that you put.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, yeah with one core, it's USBC so it's power data everything over that core. It's phenomenal. So it's uh, highly recommended. If you, if you're looking for something a little different, I mean some people using, school, you know for schools it's perfect because you can have this great touch screen laptop.
Laura Massey: Take notes at class.
Larry Hryb: To use take notes at class. And then you can take it at home and all of a sudden you're, you're busting out, your Overwatch, your no man's sky or whatever it is.
Laura Massey: Your Photoshop or ...
Larry Hryb: Your Photoshop exactly or your premiere, you know. I'm quite the premiere editor myself now. I can, I can be. I can be.
Jeff Rubenstein: Not to brag.
Larry Hryb: Uh, but a lot of people I know that are going back because it's, you know it's time to go back to school Laura. Do you miss, do you miss going back to school?
Laura Massey: I do not.
Larry Hryb: You liked school didn't you?
Laura Massey: I did like school, but I never liked the back to school time frame.
Larry Hryb: Why?
Laura Massey: I don't know, whenever those commercial come on TV, you know back to school.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, it's depressing.
Laura Massey: Was, depressing.
Jeff Rubenstein: Any marketers who's just back to cool by the way, you're fired.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, back to cool.
Laura Massey: As you walk into it. Walmart or, [inaudible 00:34:48] back to school sections.
Jeff Rubenstein: And they would start that in like July, and I was like, "No."
Laura Massey: No, it's stupid.
Larry Hryb: Now did you, when, when you were young, did you, in your school, did you, did your, did your mom come in and say, "Hey we're going school shopping now for your clothes."
Laura Massey: Yes, I would go, yes school. Clothes shopping and then school stuff shopping.
Larry Hryb: Yes.
Laura Massey: And it got to be such a tradition in Texas that's, the governor at the time I think did a tax break weekend for back to school.
Larry Hryb: Right, right.
Laura Massey: For shopping. You don't have to pay taxes.
Larry Hryb: Right, so did you have like a uh, did you have an allowance? Like you can get only two pairs of pants and two tops and a pair of sneakers or whatever?
Laura Massey: It wasn't that, it was a dollar amount.
Larry Hryb: Dollar amount.
Laura Massey: $200 to get new school clothes.
Larry Hryb: Right. Right.
Laura Massey: For the air.
Larry Hryb: Right, right.
Laura Massey: And then you wear that in the first day of school, go like "Yay, new clothes."
Larry Hryb: Yeah, you got all your new, you got all your new clothes on.
Laura Massey: New shoes, shining shoes.
Larry Hryb: Your backpack.
Laura Massey: New backpack.
Larry Hryb: I never, I've never had a backpack.
Laura Massey: What did you ...
Jeff Rubenstein: What did you use? A satchel?
Larry Hryb: I don't ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Did you, did you tie your belt around the ... and your apple in the other hand?
Larry Hryb: I don't, that's, me giving the finger to Jeffry.
Laura Massey: (Laughs)
Larry Hryb: Uh, I don't remember, I just don't remember. I had it, I must have had something. I mean I had my trapper keeper, right? Who didn't.
Laura Massey: I had one of those.
Larry Hryb: Right?
Laura Massey: Yeah.
Larry Hryb: I do.
Laura Massey: Did you doodle on it?
Jeff Rubenstein: You couldn't really doodle on it cause it's plastic.
Laura Massey: It's a plastic cover.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's terrible. I would break mine like within at 3 days where the, the plastic ring wouldn't line up anymore.
Larry Hryb: Oh yeah.
Laura Massey: Oh no. [inaudible 00:36:03] would just fall out.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah. That was my experience.
Larry Hryb: Anyway so yeah back to school is something that uh, back to school is here and I, I do, it's so depressing right? Cause you're going shopping ...
Laura Massey: I still get depressed like when I walked in to the stores and see the back to school section. I still get the sinking feeling like, "No."
Larry Hryb: So once you get past that, you actually enjoyed school.
Laura Massey: Yes.
Larry Hryb: Yes, I figured as much.
Laura Massey: Yeah.
Larry Hryb: I figured as much.
Laura Massey: I like learning. Learning's fun.
Larry Hryb: It is, I just like learning at my own pace.
Laura Massey: Fair enough.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah. I love, because they go, get a mix in there with like Halloween and football and thanksgiving, all the cool things for the year, and I was like, oh in school, and I was like, "Buh."
Laura Massey: (Laughs)
Jeff Rubenstein: It's like, I want the one without the other.
Larry Hryb: But you had to have all that.
Jeff Rubenstein: I guess.
Larry Hryb: In order to get ... Anyway.
Jeff Rubenstein: It's a circle of life.
Larry Hryb: So those of you, those of you at least uh, and I don't know how it works in the rest of the world but in America we're getting ready to go back to school and I know a lot of listeners here are in school whether it's uh, middle school, high school, college, graduate school. Doctorate school. Bartender school.
Laura Massey: (Laughter)
Larry Hryb: I need to go to bartender school, it'd be fun.
Jeff Rubenstein: That's like a thing people do now.
Larry Hryb: Is it?
Laura Massey: No is it?
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah. It's like a, you know I'm gonna go to bartender school for a few week-, like people like me that are wishes, wishing that they owned a bar at some point.
Larry Hryb: Is this, is this, are you channeling your inner cocktail Tom Cruise?
Jeff Rubenstein: It is, I want to learn how to spin the bottles.
Larry Hryb: Do you? I just, I don't know. I don't know, what about you Laura, do you want to be a bartender?
Laura Massey: I don't know. I actually, from my 7th anniversary, I did 7 years, 7 drinks, so I brought a bunch of alcohol in and.
Larry Hryb: At Microsoft.
Laura Massey: At Microsoft.
Larry Hryb: Okay I'm sorry.
Jeff Rubenstein: Not your seventh birthday.
Laura Massey: Not my seventh birthday.
Larry Hryb: Say, wow.
Laura Massey: That would be weird.
Larry Hryb: Wow, okay.
Laura Massey: Growing up real fast.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, (Laughter)
Larry Hryb: Look, they do-, I know they do things different in Texas, I'm not judging, I just want to get clarification. So. So you shout off the tops with your six shooter.
Laura Massey: Exactly, when I was six years old with six shooter.
Larry Hryb: Okay. So? So you're [inaudible 00:37:54]
Laura Massey: Anyway, and so I had mixed drinks for all my colleagues here.
Larry Hryb: I don't think I was invited to that.
Laura Massey: I think you were. I don't know, it was a while, it was a long time ago.
Larry Hryb: Yeah.
Laura Massey: And, i, I really enjoyed that. And I thought, maybe if I wasn't software engineer, I could you know have fun being bartender. Cause it's, I don't know it was fun.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah, I feel like a lot of people like, that's like, sort of like the, "you know it'd be cool if we'd just open a bar."
Larry Hryb: A bar.
Jeff Rubenstein: An Irish pub.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, exactly.
Jeff Rubenstein: Exactly, right? I'm sure the realities are ...
Larry Hryb: I mean after working when I were, I mean I worked in food service, I know you did Jeffry.
Jeff Rubenstein: Oh yeah.
Larry Hryb: Laura, you haven't worked with him like ...
Jeff Rubenstein: I flipped, I flipped a burger too.
Larry Hryb: I, I just don't have any desire to go back and do that.
Laura Massey: Yeah, I'd imagine it's probably much, much harder than my one hour of mixing drinks and having fun with my colleagues.
Larry Hryb: I'm sure it was. So just in case- ...
Laura Massey: All that do.
Larry Hryb: Anybody who's listening right now, Laura is available to bartend your party. Lolipopatxbox.com she, she only, how many drinks do you know?
Laura Massey: Seven. (Laughter)
Larry Hryb: Okay, so if anybody emails now, she'll only do it if you can guess which seven drinks it is. Okay? So you're on your own there.
Laura Massey: (Laughs)
Larry Hryb: Wow, I don't know how we ...
Jeff Rubenstein: Rum and coke? I got that one down.
Larry Hryb: Yeah that's easy, that's easy. Um, anyway, uh, all right, so we're wrapping things up here. We'll be back uh, next week we're off. Um, because we've got Pax and a few other things going on. Of course, you can see me every week on your console with this week on Xbox it's available uh, millions of people see that every week, I get a lot of people who really enjoyed the show.
Jeff Rubenstein: It was, it was nice seeing Gramp last week.
Larry Hryb: Yeah it was awesome seeing him, I want to, I'd love to do a show with you Jeffry.
Jeff Rubenstein: He's got a little scruff going on now.
Larry Hryb: Yeah he didn't shave.
Jeff Rubenstein: Yeah.
Larry Hryb: I don't know what was going on with that.
Jeff Rubenstein: He's fine. Yeah I'd love to do one.
Larry Hryb: You know. And Laura I'd love to have you on the show sometimes.
Laura Massey: I'm available.
Larry Hryb: Are you, are you available?
Laura Massey: I'm available to [inaudible 00:39:26]
Larry Hryb: When we, when we come out with the bar tending game, we'll have you [inaudible 00:39:28] show me that.
Laura Massey: Flip the bottles.
Larry Hryb: You flip the bottles and, doing the whole routine, maybe that's a good VR game to come out. Why don't you work on that? Work on that.
Jeff Rubenstein: Tapper, tapper VR.
Larry Hryb: Yeah, exactly that's exactly what it is. All right gang, we'll see you guys next week uh, have a nice week without us. But uh, we're always gonna be here you can follow us on twitter, Laura how do they find you?
Laura Massey: I am at lauralolipop.

Jeff Rubenstein: At jeffryrubenstein.
Larry Hryb: And of course I'm at majornelson and if you turned out, I'm very, very, this close Laura, this close to million followers if you are my one million follower I'll give you a prize. I don't know how I'd figure that out. So.
Jeff Rubenstein: I think that was a legally binding agreement.
Laura Massey: Follow unfollow.
Larry Hryb: Follow unfollow.
Laura Massey: Always following unfollowing.
Larry Hryb: Thank you, thank you. Laura. All right gang, we'll see you guys next time and uh, we'll see you online, thanks for listening, bye bye.
