Everspace: Free Hardcore Mode Now Available on Xbox One and Windows 10

December 6, 2017
As demanding as playing on the hard difficulty setting is, this stand-alone hardcore mode offers an entirely new level of challenge for veteran pilots, with the additional caveat of disallowing improvement in starting conditions. Each run begins with the same fixed set of pilot perks, with ship perk upgrades only allowed at the end of each sector, provided you have collected enough credits. Hardcore mode also introduces another nasty twist. When entering a new sector, players must select from different handicap modifiers, each having an adverse effect on overall gameplay. Essentially, players choose between the frying pan or the fire....

Everspace Brings Roguelike Action to the Space Shooter Genre

October 21, 2015
Rockfish Games is breaking new ground with Everspace, an upcoming action game that marries the intensity of the space shooter with the mega-intensity of the roguelike (which is shorthand for “infinitely replayable, procedurally generated games with permadeath elements, influenced by the classic Rogue”). It’s already a huge deal, too, with a successful crowdfunding campaign that’s netted the developer more than $500,000 (and counting). And today, we’re thrilled to announce that Everspace is part of Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program – which means it’s headed to Xbox One and Windows 10 PC in 2016. We recently had a chance to sit down with...

March 9, 2017
We launched Xbox Game Preview at E3 in 2015 with The Long Dark and Elite: Dangerous. In the nearly two years since, we’ve been thrilled to see the range of amazing new titles come to the program and some of our favorites “graduate” out. Game Preview was envisioned as a way for developers to build an early and continuous dialogue with their core fans and work together with them to craft the ultimate final product. Throughout the preview period, fans are constantly providing feedback – either directly, by giving suggestions to the developers, or indirectly, as the developers watch how...
