Release date alert! I’m excited to reveal that The DioField Chronicle will launch September 22 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. What’s more, a new demo will be available on August 10! This is a very exciting project from an incredibly talented development team, one that fans of strategy RPGs will adore. Read on and I’ll tell you everything you need to know, starting with…
What is The DioField Chronicle?
This all-new strategy RPG immerses you in an epic tale of war and honor. You command your forces in intense real-time tactical battles, all portrayed in beautiful diorama-style environments.
The adventure is set in a fascinating world that blends fantasy, medieval, and modern-day influences. It’s also in utter turmoil. After 200 years of peace, DioField Island is thrust into an age of war over the mineral Jade which is prized for its use in magic and sorcery. Amidst all the flames and chaos, a band of elite mercenaries who call themselves Blue Fox begin to rise. Their deeds and fates are something that will be sung of in ages yet to come. But when all is said and done, will the name Blue Fox come to signify hope or darkest tragedy?
I’ll leave that question to dangle tantalizingly in your mind for now, because we should talk about who’s making the game. The DioField Chronicle features unique character designs by Taiki (Lord of Vermilion III, IV), concept art by Isamu Kamikokuryo (Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XIII) and beautiful orchestrated music by composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell, best known for their work on “Game of Thrones.”
It’s an impressive array of talent, and that comes through in the exciting battles that you’ll command. Let’s talk about that next.
How do battles work in The DioField Chronicle?
The DioField Chronicle introduces “Real Time Tactical Battles,” or RTTB for short.
Unlike many other strategy RPGs, combat takes place in real time. You can pause the game to survey the battlefield, and give orders to your troops, but everything from your team’s actions to enemy attacks plays out at the same time. Nobody waits for their turn in this world.
This makes for thrillingly fast-paced encounters, where you have to keep a constant watch on battlefield conditions, and issue decisive orders that take advantage of your troops’ strengths and enemy weaknesses. Well-considered tactics are vital, but you also need to be ready to adjust your strategy to accommodate the ever-changing flow of battle.
It all makes for hugely enjoyable battles that feel quite different to other games in the genre. But you don’t have to take our word for it. You can find out for yourself next month with the free demo!
What’s this about demo?
On August 10, players on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One will be able to download a demo of The DioField Chronicle. You’ll be able to experience the RTTB system for yourself, learn a little more about the game’s world and story and more. We’ll reveal more about the exact content of this demo closer to the time, but here’s the bit I know you care about: your progress will carry over to the full game.
As for when and how you can play that…
